Description

PATENT FFIGE,
NATHANIEL WIGKLIFFE, OF WATERPROOF, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLANKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,610, dated December 19, 1876; application filed October 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL WlOK- LIFFE, of Waterproof, Tensas parish, Louisiana, have invented anew and Improved Blanket, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a couple of light blankets of wool or other suitable material, with a lining or ply between or outside of them of paper, laid on a sheet of gauze or other like substance adapted to strengthen the paper, to prevent it from tearing by the handling of the blankets, the paper and the cloth plies or layers being suitably fastened together detachably by buttons, or otherwise, to take them apart to remove the paper for washing the cloth. The paper, being of such close texture as to prevent the passage of air, makes the blanket much warmer for a given weight of material than can be obtained without it.
Figure 1 is partly a plan view and partly a horizontal section of a blanket constructed according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the lower cloth sheet or blanket; B, the upper one, and O the paper sheet, the latter being in this case placed in the inside. E represents buttons by which the sheets are fastened together detachably, so that the paper sheet can be taken out when required.
The paper sheet is formed on a fabric of gauze or other loosely-woven material to give it strength to resist the tearing strains to which it will be subject in the handling of the blanket. It will be made'by laying the pulp on the gauze in the forming of the sheet in the paper-machine.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A blanket or other bed-cover composed of one or more layers of woven fabric, and a pa per sheet formed on a gauze or other like fabric, the said sheets or plies being buttoned or otherwise detachably fastened together, substantially as specified.
NATHANIEL WIGKLIFFE.
