This invention relates to boilers or water heaters Vadapted for useV in connection with buildings and the like, and has more particularly to do with improving the appearance of the boiler.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to construct a boiler in such a manner that the burner cocks and manifold will be entirely enclosed within the boiler housing to thereby prevent the burner cocks from being accidentally turned on or oif and at .the same time to materially improve the appearance of the boiler.
With the objects above indicated and other objects hereinafter explained in view, the invention consists in the construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the lower portion of a boiler einbodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view looking into the boiler with the door removed.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view showing the manner in which the frame is supported by the boiler base.
In the drawings, 10 represents a cast iron base upon which the water sections 11 are adapted to rest. The water sections 11, four of which are herein illustrated although any desired number may be employed, are adapted to be positioned side by side and are connected together at the rear lower portions thereof by a water manifold 12 and at the upper forward portions thereof by an outlet manifold which is not herein shown. Preferably beneath the sections are burners 13 supported upon a burner support 1-l preferably fornied integral with the side walls of the base 10. The burners 13 have connected thereto mixer tubes 15 which, in turn, communicate by pipes 16 with the gas manifold 17 connected to any suitable source of supy ply. The gas from the manifold 17 to the burners 13 is controlled by individual burner cocks 18 disposed between the manifold 17 and the pipes 16.

sides of the sections 11 to thereby heat the latter and subsequently pass out through a suitable opening in the top of the boiler to a chimney leading to atmosphere, these latter members not being herein illustrated inasmuch as it forms no part of the present inf'ention and is but the customary construcion.
rlhe boiler sections 11 are ordinarily entirely enclosed within a heat insulated housing, the front and rear walls 19 and 20, respectively, being herein shown.
In the ordinary construction of boilers or water heaters of the type referred to, it is customary to have the gas manifold 17 and burner cocks 18 positioned upon the outside Y of the boiler or housing and, as a result, are unprotected which veryoften results in accidental turning on or off of the burner cocks by children or other persons. Furthermore,
1 having the manifold 17 and burner cocks 18 on the outside of the boiler, detracts materially from the appearance of the boiler and it is, therefore, .the intention of the present invention to overcome these objections.
The water sections 11 are provided with forwardly extending oifset portions 21, which proj ect forwardly of the inner front plate 22 of the cast iron base 10 sufiicientlyto provide a space 23 directly beneath the offset portions 21 for a purpose to be later described. These offsetportions 21 'of the sections 11 engage a transversely extending heat insulating member 24 which, in turn, is carried by a supporting plate 25 which has its rear edge provided with a rearwardly extending flange 26 supported upon the upper edge of the inner front plate 22. TheV front wall 19 of the housing is moved outwardly as shown in Fig. 1 adjacent the front edges of the sections 11 instead of extending directly upwardly above the inner front plate 22 as in the customary construction. This front wall 19 is provided with an opening in its lower portion which is adapted to receive therein the cast iron frame 27. This cast iron frame 27 has a rearwardly extending flange 28 along its upper edge upon which the front wall 19 is adapted to rest and disposed between the lower edge of the front wall 19 and the flange 28 is the forward end of the supporting plate 25.
The frame 27 is provided with a pair of laterally extending ears 29 adjacent its inidportion to which are bolted or otherwise secured tlieears of lbrackets 30, which brackets have transverse openings to receive and support the manifold 17. The inner free ends of the brackets V30 are provided w'th upwardly extendingv hooks A31, which are adapted to interengage with vertical slots 82 provided in the inner front plate 22 of the base 10. rl`he lower edges of the free ends of thebracl-:ets 30 are provided with transverse notches 33 of :suilicent width -to rest upon the inner front @late `22 adjacent the slottedopeniiigs 32. lit will, therefore, be noted that the cast iron frame 2.7 is held in proper relationship with respect to the housing and directly `adjacent the opening` 23 vby means of the brackets 80.
Thecast iron frame 27 is provided with an inwardly extending flange 34 adapted tocooperate with'a door 35 which, when in closed position, covers the manifold 127 and burner vcocks 18 so that the latter cannot be observed from outside'of the-boiler. This'door y35 is .provided on its lower edge with a `pair of inwardly extending members 36 adjacent the sides thereof, which 'are adapted to engage with notches 37 provided in the lower por- =tion lof lflange 34 of the cast iron -franic 2?. 9. In a boiler, a plurality of sections having offset portions adjacent their lower ends,
a base supporting said sections and having a front plate adjacent the rear portion of said offset portions, burners beneath said sections, and control means for said burners disposed beneath said offset portions and in front of said front plate.

In a boiler of the character described, a plurality of sectionsl having a space therebeneath, a housing surrounding said sections and space, a partition dividing said space into "3 two chambers, one of which is a combustion chamber, a burner disposed in said combustion chamber, and gas controlling` means disposed within said other chamber, said housing having means providing access to said gas controlling means, and said partition havingV means providing access to said burner.
