The output of'these machines varies with the revolution of some shaft, and'in' order to provide a more improved devicerequiring but a single installation, I have incoiporated in a single unit the time recording 'dei vice and the counting device; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention, illustrating the" preferred` means by which theseadvantageous results may be accomplished.
With reference to thedrawings, '10'desig nates one part of the casing,land 11 the other part which are each formed with hinge eyes and hinged together by hinge pintle 12. An openingl is provided in the base ofthe casing part'10 to' receive a mounting'support for retaining the same in stationary position upon the desired part of the machine; In the cas ing "part Y11 I have mounted a continuous rotating mechanism or clock work housed in' its casing 14 and held in the part 11 by suitable screws 15. The clock mechanism causes continuous rotation ofthe scalloped disk'ld upon which there is mounted'a chart 17 by.`
binding means 18. The part 11 is swung about the partv T10 to open position rto expose the bin'dingmeans l18 andthe chart 17 for ins'pec-y tion or removal and replacement, as desired. The "binding means 18 also serves as a winding knob for the spring of the clock mechanism contained in the casing 14.
The casing 11 is held in closed position, as illustrated in Figure 2, by means of an eccentrically mounted disk 19 which may be swung into the slot 20 in the pin 21 which eX- tends through the opening 22 in the part 11.
and which is fixed in the part 10. This disk 19 is pivoted at 23 and is operable by means of a handle portion 24 to swing the cam 19 about its pivot into kor out ofthe slot 20. Cam 24 may be locked in securing position by means of a padlock extending through-an" opening in the handle 24, in the ear 26 of casing 11.
When the casing parts are in closedY posin tion, the rotating chart 17 engages a marker and the opening 25 27 which is in the form of a pencil or a stylus in the part 10 and operated by a worm gear 33 and worm 34 on the drive shaft 35 which extends across the casing parallel to the bore 13 for mounting the same.- The shaft 35 projects through the casing and is suitably connected as at 36 with a member 37 adapted to be connected to the end of a rotating shaft, the behavior of which it is desired should be indicated by the registering device. Holes may be drilled in the end of such shaft, and the portions 38 lof the member 37 inserted into these holes in order to insure'a positive connection.
The counting mechanism is also vdriven from the shaft 35 by means of a worm 39 mounted thereon, worm gear 40, worm 41 and gear 42 to operate the counting mechanism and register by suitable digit disks 43 the outut of the machine or the number of-revolu tions of the shaft to which it is connected.
The counting mechanism permits of wide flexibility of gearing for varying machines to obtain the reading inyards of goods passing through the machine or any other desired unit of measure.
The casing part 10 is so mounted that the leading 43 is Yexposed to view at alltimes and the parts so related that the part 11 which is hinged to the part 10 is free to open by manipulation of the member 19 to expose the chart 17 for inspection or removal.
Upon rotation of the shaft 35, the counting mechanism operates to register the amount of operation of the machine, such as yards of work passing. therethrough, to which 'the drive shaft 35 is connected, and at the same time the eccentric'31 causes van oscillating movement of the member 28 which may be shaped as illustra-ted7 or any other desired shape to oscillate the marker during the rotatable movement of the shaft and draw a wavy line 44 on the chart, as indicated in Figure 4. When the shaft, the behaviorY of which is being indicated, stops, a straight line will be recorded 45 due to the continuous turning of the chart 17 by the clock-work 14, andx upon resuming operation again, the wavyi sirable results are all contained within a single casing which is portable'as a unit andadapted to be applied to anyl machine, the
operation of whichis desired to be learned,
both registering'mechanisms being driven from a single drive shaft in the casing.
While I have described certainV construction forms which embody the principles of my invention, itis obvious that other desired changes in arrangement may be made vwithin the spirit and the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A registering device `comprising a casing, a` drive shaft in said casing, means to connect said drive shaft to a rotary part, a rotatable chart, a pivotally suspended mounting provided with a marker to cooperate with said chart and having a Aslot therein, and eccentric means in said slot responsive to the movementof said drive shaft'- to operate lsaid marker.
2. A registering device comprising a casing, a drive shaft in said casing, means to connect said drive shaft to a rotary part, a chart, a pivotally suspended mounting provided with a marker to coopf erate with said chart and having a slot therel in, a disc member rotatable about its center, a
