A hook bar 25 hinged upon the hopper at 26 has a hooked end 27 which is passed over the journal spindle 15 of one of the cross bars to hold the hopper in horizontal position until it is desired to tip its load, when by releasing the hook the hopper may be tilted into the position shown in dotted lines Fig. 3 or the tilting of the hopper may be effected by rearward movement of the vehicle as hereinafter described.
Ropes 28 and 29 one upon each side of the apparatus are at their respective ends fastened to the axles of the rollers 8.
V The rope 28 passes around a guide sheave 30 and from thence is led beneath another guide sheave 31 to the barrel 32 of a winch which is fixed to the standards of the frame.
Rope 29 passes around guide sheave 4:8 and beneath guide sheave 49 to the winch barrel 32. Both ropes 28 and 29 being coiled around the winch barrel in the same direction. The guide sheave 48 is located beneath the runways 4a so as to be clear of the wheels of vehicle 14.
The winch is of ordinary construction having turning handles 33, gear wheels 34, hand brake 35 and ratchet wheel 36 engaged by a pawl 37.
Another rope 38 is secured at its end to the winch barrel 32 around which it is wound in opposite direction to ropes 28 and 29, it then passes beneath a guide sheave 39 around another guide sheave 40 and is connected to the axle of roller 8 upon the same side of the apparatus.
To prevent the side rods 11 from turning down beyond a certain limit when the striking bar is not in contact with the back of a vehicle, bearer brackets 42 are fixed to each of the connecting rods 9.
Striking bar 13 is pivoted at one end upon one of the side rods and at its opposite end has a hook 43 which hooks over the end of the side bar opposite between collars 4-4 and 45 thereon, as shown in Fig.
To prevent the guide sheaves 10 from rising from the guide rails 5 arms 4-6 swinging from the spindles 12 of the guide sheaves each carlry a roller 47 which runs beneath the guide ra1 In operation the hopper will be loaded while the parts are in position, shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The vehicle is then backed in and by contact with the striking bar pulls the side rods towards the hopper.
The lifting levers 6 being pushed by the connecting rods cause the cross bars 17 to rise until their arbors 20 reach the ends of the slots 21 in the brackets 22.
Continued movement of the vehicle then raises the hopper sufficiently high to clear the end of the vehicle.
Guide sheaves 10 will at that stage be the end of the horizontal portion of guide rails 4.
Further rearward movement of the vehicle causes guide sheaves 10 to pass up the curved extensions of the guide rails. The connecting rods therefor have no further effect upon the ends of levers 6 and the vehicle may be backed beneath the load.
hen it is desired to back the vehicle further the hook at the end of the striking bar is released from the side rod, and the bar swung clear of the vehicle.
Rearward movement of the vehicle causes rope 38 to be pulled and the winch barrel thereby rotated, ropes 28 and 29 being wound upon the barrel while rope 38 unwinds from The pawl 37 by engagement in the ratchet wheel 36 prevents rotation of the winch drum in one direction and the hopper is therefore sustained until the pawl is released from the ratchet wheel, when by using the hand brake 35 the hopper may be lowered to its normal position.
It will be obvious that by using the winch the hopper may be raised without utilizing the rearward movement of a vehicle.
To facilitate tilting of the hopper to discharge its load the movement of levers 5 is limited by chains 19 secured at one end to the lever and at the other end to the foundation plates 1.
Continued rearward movement of the vehicle beyond the position shown in the drawings will affect levers 6 only, and, through the cross bars 17, the hopper will be tilted into a convenient position for the deposit of its load.
I claim 1. Apparatus for the purpose set forth comprising in combination a frame, a runway for a vehicle therein, two corresponding pairs of lifting levers one pair upon each side of the frame, a hopper, cross bars journalled upon the upper ends of the lifting levers and suspension arms connecting the hopper thereto, hinge means connecting one member of each pair of lifting levers to the frame, foundation plates for the frame, rollers run ning thereon, spindles for the rollers upon which a member of each pair of lifting arms is journalled, longitudinal guides upon the frame, guide sheaves running thereon, connecting rods connecting the spindles of the rollers with the spindles of the guide sheaves, a striking bar extendin across the frame, and side rods connecting the guide sheaves with the ends of the striking bar as described.

Apparatus for the purpose set forth comprising in combination a frame, a run way for a vehicle therein, two correspondfor the end of ing pairs of lifting levers one pair upon each side of the frame, a hopper, cross bars journalled upon the upper ends of the lifting levers, suspension arms connecting the hopper thereto, hinge means connecting one member of each pair of lifting levers to the frame, foundation plates for the frame, rollers running thereon, spindles for the rollers upon which a member of each pair of lifting arms is journalled, longitudinal guides upon the frame, guide sheaves running thereon, connecting rods connecting the spindles of the rollers with the spindles of the guide sheaves, ropes connected to the spindles of the rollers, guide sheaves for the ropes, a winch, a barrel thereof around which the ropes are coiled, another rope coiled upon the winch barrel in opposite direction to first mentioned ropes and connected at its end to the spindle of one of said rollers as specified.
3. Apparatus for the purpose set forth comprising in combination a frame, a runway for avehicle therein, two corresponding pairs of lifting levers one pair upon each side of the frame, a hopper, cross bars journalled upon the upper ends of the lifting levers and suspension arms pivotally connecting the hopper thereto, hinge means connecting one member of each pair of lifting levers to the frame, foundation plates for the frame, rollers running thereon, spindles for the rollers upon which a member of each pair of lifting arms is j ournalled, longitudinal guides upon the frame, an upwardly curved -extension from each guide, guide sheaves traversable upon the guides and extensions thereof, connecting rods connecting the spindles of the rollers with the spindles of the guide sheaves, a striking bar extending across the frame, and side rods connecting the guide sheaves with the ends of the striking bar.
4. In apparatus for the purpose set forth in combination two corresponding pairs of lifting levers, hinge means in fixed location a member of each pair, rollers one upon the end of a member of each pair, a hopper, cross bars pivotally connecting the upper ends of the respective pairs of levers, suspension arms connecting the hopper to the cross bars, with means for traversing the rollere whereby the hopper is lifted and lowered.
5. In apparatus for the purpose set forth in combination two corresponding pairs of lifting levers, hinged means in fixed location for the end of one member of each pair, rollers one upon the end of another member of each pair, a hopper for the upper ends of the lifting levers, means for traversing the rollers and means for limiting the movement of the hinged members.
6. In apparatus for the purpose set forth in combination two corresponding palrs of lifting levers, hinged means in fixed location for the end of a member of each pair, rollers one upon the end of another member of each pair, a hopper, brackets upon the hopper having guide slots, arbors upon the hopper working in the guide slots, a cross bar pivoted upon the arbor, pivotal means for connecting the ends thereof to the upper ends of the lifting levers, swing arms pivotally connected to said arbor and having longitudinal slots, pins projecting from the hopper engaging in the slots with means for traversing the rollers whereby the hopper is lifted and lowered.
