Description

B. S. ROY.
FLOOR-CLQSING'DEVICE. ,No.184,91 0. Patented Nov.v28,1 876.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
BOZIL S. ROY, OF ROCKVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOOR-CLOSING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent N 0. 184,916, dated November 28, 1876 application filed August 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BOZIL S. ROY, of Rockvi'lle, in the county of Tolland and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements pertaining to Floor-Closing Devices for Belts and Pipes, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, where- Figure 1 is a top view of a floor-closer for a single belt. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same on plane 00 as. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on plane y y.
The object of the invention is the closing of the hole in the floor where a belt or pipe pierces it, as far as possible, yet allowing some lateral motion of the pipe or belt, as is almost always necessary in the use of belts, and as is always necessary where a steam-pipe pierces a floor after some length of horizontal run. Such closing of passages through floors is very desirable to prevent dirt sitting down from the upper floor on machinery and goods beneath.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the letter a denotes a base-block, which covers the opening in the floor, having a mortise, b, through it. The traveling board 0 slides in the ways a on the base-block, and has the mortise d. The letter 9 denotes the belt-sleeve, which fits loosely to the belt. It is made rotarily adjustable on the traveler c, to fit the position of the belt. Such rotary adjustment is attained by means of the parti-circular slots 01 seen that the inside of the belt-sleeve has a peculiar shape-that is, both sides and both ends swell toward the center, so that at this center the sleeve can fit very closely indeed to the belt, at the same time avoiding all danger of the belt wearing by striking on the edges at the mouth of the sleeve.
In some cases, where pipes and belts are already in position, before applying these floorclosers, it is advisable to make the base-board, traveler, and sleeve in duplicate halves, so
that they may be applied without disturbing the belt or pipe.
I claim as my invention In combination, the mortised ways, block a, the mortised traveler 0, the sleeve 9, with its flanged foot, having the parti-circular niortises d, and the pins 0, all substantially as described.
. BOZIL S. ROY.
