IMPROVEMENT IN COATS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,802, dated November 28, 1876; application filed October 9, 1876.
To all whom it may cbncern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT P. SILVA, of Elmira, in the county of Ohemung and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coats, for additional protection from the weather, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in the attachment of asupplementary collar to the inside of the neck of the coat, in combination with mittens for the protection of the hands, formed by the extension of the sleeves, in such a manner that, when not in use, the collar may be folded on the inside of the coat, and worn without destroying the set of the garment, and, when required, readily unfolded and secured around the neck and face, and that the mittens, when unfolded, may be used for the protection of the hands, and when folded, form the cuffs of the sleeves of the coat.
The object of the invention is to provide a neat, simple, and convenient protection to the neck, face, and hands from the inclemency of the weather, as asubstitute for the ordinary cumbersome appendages used for that purpose.
Figure 1 in the accompanying drawings is a view of a coat embodying my invention. Fig. 2. isa view of the same, with the collar and mitten unfolded for use. Fig. 3 is the collar detached.
A is the supplementary collar, whichis mad to conform to the neck and face when in use, and may be lined with fur or other suitable lining. This collar is attached to the inside and under the collar D of the coat E, and when not in use it may be folded in the inside of the garment, and securedin place by inserting the ends into openings.
If required, the collar A may be made detachable, and secured to the coat with buttons or other suitable appliances, as shown by Fig. 3 in the drawings. B is the mitten extension of the sleeve of the coat E. The end of this sleeve is made in the form of the common mitten, without the thumb, and has an opening, 0, for the admission of the hand, and when notin use is folded from the opening 0 on the wrist of the sleeve, which forms the cuff O. x
If, While wearing the garment without the use of the above-described appendages, their use should be required, the collar D is slightly thrown back, and the collar A drawn up and secured around the neck and face, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The cuffs G are then detached and turned down, when the hand is entered through the opening 0 into the mitten B,whichefi'ectuall'y protects the hands and wrists from the cold.
1 Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with the coat E, the supplementary collars A and mittens B, constructed and arranged substantially as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
