This invention relates to a novel advertising device particularly adapted for use in displaying advertising upon windows and other transparent surfaces.

One object of the invention is to provide a novel device of the character specified which is adapted to be removably secured to one side of a window or other transparent surface and to display the advertising so that it is visible from the other side of the window or other surface.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel device of the character specified which may be economically manufactured and readily attached to and detached from the window or other transparent surface and by which the advertising may be displayed in a manner such as to attract attention.

l'Vith these objects in View and such others as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the advertising device hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claim at the end of this specification.

In the drawings illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention, Fig. 1 illus trates the present advertising device secured to one surface of a windowpane to display the advertising so that it is visible from without the window; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view 30 of the improved advertising device; Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the same applied to a window; and Figs. 4 and 5 are views in side elevation and plan respectively of a modification of the present invention.

Referring now to the drawings, in general the present advertising device comprises a suction cup 10 of rubber or similar composition which is concave in shapeand provided with flexible marginal portions 12, la, designed to enable the cup to be flattened against a windowpane and to be heldagainst the surface by suction. The suction cup is provided Within its concave face withone or more characters 16 arranged to constitute the desired advertising, and as illustrated in Fig. 1, three characters are shown comprising the wellknown trade-mark Lax. derstood of course that the character or characters 16 may comprise letters, numbers, em- 50 blems, insignia, or any other device designed It will be unto make up the desiredadvertising, and that thetrade-mark Lux is herein shown merely forpurposes of illustration. In practice I prefer to utilize a rubber label bearing the desired characters'as a means of attaching the characters to the inner concave face of the suction cup and have experienced particularly good results with commercial forms of such rubber labels which are necessarily. thin and maybe made to adhere to the inner face of the suction'cup tenaciously.

Il/Vhen the suction cup is applied to the surface of a windowpanesuch as 15,- the marginal portions 12, 14: of the cup engage and grip the surface of the pane, and it has been found that the presence of the'characters making up the advertising, if positioned within the cup at an average minimum distance'of an eighth of an inch from the ex treme marginal edge of the cup, does not .de

tract from the ability of thecup to adhere to the pane, and I therefore prefer to position the advertising characters within the cup at least such'distance from the marginal edges.

From the description thus far it will be observed that the present advertising device affords an extremely simple and convenient method by which advertising may be displayed upon windows, upon the underside of showcases, and in various other places where advertising is atpresent displayed only with considerable inconvenience. The device may be easily attached to and detached from the window, showcase, or other transparent member, and when'once attached will remain in operative position for relatively long periods of time. It is entirely unnecessary to employ adhesive or other means for attaching the present advertising device to the window or pane, thus avoiding smearing of the window, and avoiding the resulting cleaning operation. After the present device has been removed from the window or pane it is not necessary to scrape any hard adhesive from the window, thus saving considerable inconvenience and expense in this respect.

In the modification of my invention illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5,'the advertising is designed to be secured in a clip 30 attached to and forming a part of a suction cup 32. The

clip 30 is, as herein shrown, formed by two metal members riveted or otherwise secured upon the rear face of the suction cup 32 and having portions 34:, 36 designed to be capable of being sprung apart by the application of pressure under the end of the upper portion 38 toperinit the insertion of a paper or other medium upon which the advertising'is borne, so that When the suction cup is attached to the surface of the Window or other pane, the advertising Will beconveniently displayed-to be visible from the exterior or other side of the Window or pane. In practice it may be desirable to utilize more than one clip in connection W1th the attachment 01": any advertisingof material size;

lVhile it may be preferred to utilize the clip herein illustrated, it Will be understoodthat other forms of fastening or holding devices A, maybesuscd, and the invention contemplates the attachment of such devices to the suction cup to form a unitary structure capable of use-for the described purposes.

While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been herein illustrated and,

described, it will be understood that the invention will beembodied in other forms Within the scope of the following claim.

Having thus described the invention what isclaimecl'is An advertising device of the character described comprising a suction cup designed for application to a Window or other surface to'be secured thereto by suction, said suction cup'being provided upon its concaveattaching face with afiexible rubber label, bearing advertising, affixed thereto by surface bonding'and constituting a unitary part thereof whereby the label is movable in thevarious flexed positions of the concave cup. 7
