onmom FLUSH'TYPE THEFTPROOF PANEL BOAR-D Application filed April 2, 1926. Serial No. 99,422.
This invention relates to anelectricalapparatus, particularly: to mountings for electric. currentimeters andthe switches and fuse blocks associated I therewith, and has for its 1,- objecttheprovision of a novel paneliboard or device for this purpose which maybe set flush in the wall of ahuildingand which will, moreover, be theft-proofso asto prevent unauthorized use of current or tampering with Harry: of the interior mechanismby unauthorized or unscrupulous persons An important andmore'specific object is the provision of a mounting. comprising. a
box-like casing adapted to-be let flush into a wall? and containing the fuse block and switch mechanism, the front of the. casing being closed by a cover whichprovidesa neat trim for'thebox and the. electric light meter used-in connection therewith, certain portions "of the cover being capable of removal by the employees or other authorized persons connected with the electric light company,- the removal of these elements, however, necessitatin taking off certain seals which are provide by the company for its protection, it being quite obvious that the absence of these seals will be a clear indication that some one has been tampering with the mechanism.
Another object is to rovide a device of -this character in which t e cover is provided with a door which may be readily opened by the user of the current so as to permit renewal of any of the fuses in case they become blown out as fre uently happens.
An additional ject is to provide a device of this character.which in addition to being neat and attractive in appearance will be also simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to install, positive in its operation, efiicient and durable in service and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and the arrangement 45: and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete device.
Figure 2 is a vertical section'taken on'the line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is an elevation of the boxwith the cover removed.
Referring more particularly to the draw- 55: ings, I have shown the device'as comprising a box or casing constructed of any suitable material, preferably sheet metaland of any necessary size; This box or casing; is adapted to be let into a wall so as to be flush 60 with the surface thereof, and the front of the box is open and formedwith a continuously extending flange 11 which provides an abutment for the cover or finish indicated-generally by the numeral 12. Located at the front or open face of the box or casing-isan auxiliary box structure 13 which is depressed inwardly as shown but which has its back wallportion "14 formed with spaced-slots 14 to permit access to fuses 15 mounted'in thev usualfuse block v16, it being, well known-that these fuses must be replaced in case they become broken or burned out from any: cause. Within the auxiliary box structure 13 is a partition '17: defining :a separate compartment l7 the back of: which isprov-ided with an opening 18 permitting access to two=othen fuses 19 carried by the fuse block. Also located within the compartment 17 P is the controlrswitch 20 which may be of any-ordinary or preferred type and equipped with anoperating handle 21- which extends through a suitable slot 22 in the front closure plate-23- which isof'considerably greater length then the box 10 so as to have a portion 24iextendingupwardly thereabove as clearly indicated in Figure '1. Securing members 25,- suchas: screwsor bolts pass through the frontplate 23and actto secure it together with the auxiL ilaryv box members to the flange '11 of the box carrying wing nuts 31 tied together in pairs by rods 32 passing therethrough and carrying seals 33. Below the plate section 29 the plate 23 is formed with an opening 34 normally closed by a hinged door 35 which may be opened wheneverv it is necessary to have access to the fuses 15. It is of course understood that the late section 29 is removed when it is necessary to have access to the mechanism of the switch and that the socket member 26 is removed when it is necessary to remove or repair the meter.
As an effective seal for the entire cover plate 23, I provide a stud 36 which extends through a suitable hole 37 in the plate 23 and which carries a seal 38.
In use, the device isoperated in substantial-' ly the same manner as others of this general class, but it will be observed that it is thef proof' owing to the provision of the seals and securing devices for the'various removable elements. Furthermore, the device possesses the great advantage of being flush with the surface of the wall to which it is applied and it is therefore neat and attractive in appearance in addition to having the other advantages specified. It is believed that the construction, operation and advantages will be readily apparent to one skilled in the art without further explanation.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, it should beunderstood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim v 1. A cabinet for a flush type panel board, comprising a rectangular box like casing having an open front provided with an inwardly extended peripheral flange, the casing being adapted tobe let into a wall with the open front substantially flush with the face of the wall, and an auxiliary frusto-pyramidal shell member located within the open front of said casing and having a peripheral outstanding flange overlying said first named flange, the
back portion of said auxiliary shell member being provided with spaced slots, said shell member dividing the space within the casing into two compartments, access to the rear one of which may be'had through said openings, a partition element extending transversely of said auxiliary shell member and dividing it into separate compartments one for fuses and the other for a switch, a panel for closing the front of the box like casing, said panel overlying the second named flange and secured thereto and to the first named flanges V by securing elements introduced from the front/and beingformed with a plurality of open1ngs,'and means for closing said openmgs in the panel.
' shell member being provided with spaced slots said shell. member dividing" the space within the casing intoiforward and rear compartments, fuse blocks located within the rear compartment and accessible through said slots, a partition element extending across said shell member and dividing said forward compartment into upper and lower sections, the back wall of the shell member within said upper section being formed with an opening, fuse blocks located within said rear compartment and accessible through said last named opening, a switch device located within-said upper section, a panel overlying the front of the box and formed with openings permit ting access to said upper and lower. sections of the forward compartment, doors normally closing said last named openings, and securing elements passing through the panel and through said first and second. named flanges
