In operation of the structure shown in Figs. 9 and l0, the collar 80 will be turned on shaft 68 to bring sleeve 7d into proper 95 relation to the work. The sleeve 74: will be brought to approximate position by adjust ing one of the members carrying the centers. When collar 8O is adjusted the same Will be clamped in position by bolt 81. The Worlr will be pressed against pins 77 and 78, pin 78 entering the work approximately at its longitudinal axis. The Work will be driven against pins 77 and 78 and if resistance to: Y pin 78 is sufficiently great, the spring 79 105 will be coinpressed allowing the Work to be driven against and engaged by pins 77 Without splitting the work. Pin 78 often projects forwardly sufficiently so that if no yielding is provided for, the work will be split by being driven over pin 78 before it is effectively engaged by pins 77. Vhen the sleeve 7d is in the desired position said screw 75 is tightened pressing bushing 73 tightly against shaft portion 68?) and connecting 115 sleeve 74 to said shaft so that it will be driven with said shaft. Screw 76 is provided so that bushing 73 will nieve with sleeve 74. It will thus be seen that by the arrangement of the center structure the Werl; can be driven against the live or driving centerwith no danger of the work being split. The structure aoconnnodates the necessary adg justinent of the parts.
