IMPROVEMENT IN CASES FOR TRANSPORTING BOTTLES AND BOTTLED LIQUIDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,399, dated November 14, 1876; application filed October 9, 1876. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS MANN, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (gases for Transporting Bottles and Bottled Liquids and I do hereby declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, with the cover partially removed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line a: w.
The object I have in view is to construct a case for transporting bottles and bottled liquids, but more especially for the transportation of bottled lager-beer and it consists in a rectangular box, and the manner ofsecuring the cover of the same, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a box of suitable size to contain the bottles to be shipped. In the bottom of the box are formed sockets a, to receive the base of each bottle. A strip, B, is secured to one end of the box A, the upper edge of which projects above the box an equal distance to the thickness of the cover, While over this strip B is secured a metallic band, (J, projecting inward over the box and forming a tie for one end of the cover D.
After the bottles have been placed in the box, one end of the cover D is slipped under the band C, the other end being secured by a screw, d.
In order to detect whether the box has been opened during transit, 1 paste a label over the end of the cover and box, concealing thejoint LEWIS MANN. Witnesses:
