When the thread 7a is fed outwardly of the upper guide eye 12, the tensioned roller 25 carried by the'slide frame is raised on the guide rods together with the slide frame and said rack bar is also elevated to position the stop arm 19 in engagement with a tooth of the ratchet teeth 8, and at this time the upper end of the slide frame is engaged with the depending stop upon the cross head 13. A further pull upon the thread 7a will rotate the roller against the tension of the spring 28 and cause the pinion 34 to move the rack bar 16 downwardly for disengag ing the stop arm 19 from the ratchet teeth 8 whereupon a certain'quantity of thread will be unwound fromthe bobbin 7 and fed to the braiding machine. From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. i
' I claim:
v 1. In a spindle carrier for braiding machines, a base having'a bobbin support rising therefrom, guide posts on the base, a rack bar slidable on the posts and having a stop arm at its lower edge having ratchet engagement with a bobbin, and means operated by the bobbin thread for lowering therack bar and stop arm to permit unwinding movement of operated by the feeding of the thread and associated w'iththeratchet teeth-onthe bob thethread passes and a pinion carried by the roller engaged with the rack bar for disengaging the same from the bobbin.
5.- In a'spindle carrier for braiding machines, a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchet teeth upon its lower flange, rack and pinion devices operated by the feeding of the thread and associated with the ratchet teeth on the bobbin for controlling feeding of the thread, and means for limiting movements of the rack.
6. In a spindle carrier for'braidingmachines, a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchet teeth upon its lower flange, a sliding rack bar having an arm positioned for engagement with the ratchet teeth, a tensioned' roller over which the thread passes and a pinion carried by the roller engaged with the rack bar for disengag- V a ing the same from the bobbin.

In a spindle carrier for braiding machines, a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin havingratchet teeth upon its lower flange, a sliding rack bar having an arm positioned for engagement with the I ratchet teeth, a tensioned-roller over which the thread passes, a pinion carried by the roller engaged with the rack bar for disengaging the same from the bobbin, and a slide frame for the support of the pinion.
9. In a spindle carrier for braiding machines, a basehaving a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchet teeth upon its lower flange, rack and pinion devices operated by the feeding of the thread and associated with the ratchet teeth on'the bobbin for controlling feeding of the thread, means for limiting movements of the rack, a slide frame for the support of the pinion, and means for limiting movements of the slide frame. 7
i 10. In a spindle carrier for braiding machines,a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchet teeth frame for the support of the pinion, and
means for limiting movements of the slide frame.

In a spindle carrier for braiding machines, .a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchetteeth upon its lower flange, guide posts rising from the base, a rack bar and frame slidable on the guide posts, a stop arm on the rack bar engaged with the ratehet teeth, a roller journalled on the frame over'which the thread passes and a pinion carried by the roller engaged with the rack bar. 12. In a spindle carrier for braiding machines, a base having a bobbin support rising therefrom, a bobbin having ratchet teeth upon 7 its lower flange, guide posts rising from the base, a rack bar and frame slidable on the guide posts, a stop arm on the rack barengaged with the ratchet teeth, a roller journalled on the frame over which the thread passes and a pinion carried by the roller engaged with the rack bar, and-means for rotatably tensioning the roller. p
