provision of an improved stitched-down shoe' for children, though the advantages claimed for this construction are not limited to childrens shoes. Y
Further objects ofthe invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings in which K Fig.k l is a side elevation partly in section showing my improved shoe.
F ig. 2 is across-sectional View along the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
A leather sock lining l of the shape of the proposed shoe is cemented to a felt cushion 2, clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the sock lining l extending over the edge of the cushion 2. The inner sole 3 is then cemented to the underside of the cushion 2, the inner sole extending to the edge of the shoe the same as the sock lining l. The upper 4 has an inner lining 5 sewn thereto in the conventional manner.
The upper l with its lining 5, the sock lining l, the cushion 2, and the inner sole 3, are now stapled together by means of the staples y 6. The outer sole 7 is then cemented to the inner sole 3 by means of the cement 8. After this operation is performed, all the plies of the material used in the shoe are joined together in a unitary structure by adding the welt- 9 and sewing through this welt 9, the
y upper 4, with its lining 5, the sole sock lining 1930. Serial No. 433,204.
leather on each side of the sock lining l, with a water-proof edging Wide enough to prevent the entry of any water into the sock lining l or into the cushion 2.
It should be understood that between the different layers of leather shown, and between the sock lining l and the cushion 2, there are successive layers of cement, so as to further reinforce the construction of the shoe.
The upper lining is however not cemented to the upper l, except at the edges thereof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is A shoe comprising an upper and a lining cemented together at their outer edges, a sock lining of leather to which a felt cushion is secured, said telt cushion being otl smaller area than the sock-lining, an inner sole cemented to the under side of the felt cushion and having an outer edge portion on which the extended edge of the sock lining rests, and an outer sole cemented to the inner sole, said upper and lining being outturned over the extended edge of the sock lining, staples securing said upper, lining, sock lining, and inner sole together, a welt, and a line of stitches securing said welt, upper, lining, sock lining, inner sole, and outer sole together.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LEo RosENwAssER.
