Description

P. D. PRENTlss HANDRACK FOR ADHESIVE TAPE Filed May 28, 195o Patented Dec. 29, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE PAUL D. PRENTISS, OF WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JOHNSON & JOHNSON, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY HANDRACK FOR ADHESIVE TAPE Application filed May 28,
This invention relates to devices or holders for adhesive tape and the like and was devised with the object of simplifying the handling of the tape and the application thereof in service.
The nature of the invention consistsV in the provision of a simple and inexpensive handrack embodying a handle co-eXtensive with a spindle constructed to receive a factory loaded core of adhesive tape and having guards at each end whereof one is removable to permit the application of the tape, the guards being of polygonal form so that the rack will not have a tendency to roll or creep. f
The preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein f Figure l is a view partly in elevation and 20 partly in longitudinal section of the improved handrack and tape assembly.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the removable guard and Fig. 3 is an end view thereof.
The improved handrack embodies a tubular shank or spindle 5 equipped atone end with a handle 6 and with a fixed guard 7, and at the other end with a removable guard 8. The latter may be secured relatively to the shank or spindle in any suitable way, Ybut under the preferred practice, guard 8 is formed or provided with a tubular extension 9 adapted to telescope the end of the spindle and to have pin and slot connection therewith as indicated at 10. In order to prevent creeping or rolling of the handrack when not in use, the edges of the guards are of polygonal conformation as at 11. The tubu lar shank or spindle 5 is intended to receive a roll of adhesive tape 12 having a core 13 adapted to lit the spindle with more or less friction as may be desired. When the roll is exhausted, it may be replacedvby a fresh roll by simply removing the detachable guard, applying anew roll and then securing the guard to place.
Having described the invention, what is claimed, is:
A completely portable rack for handling adhesive tape in roll form, comprising a tubu- 1930. Serial No. 456,663.
