Referring now to the drawings for a def 'tailed' description of my invention, I show my closure device as comprising acap member 10 applied to a filling tube or neck member 11. This tubular member may be an vintegral part of a container such as a' fuel tank radia- -tor or the like, or, as shown inthe drawings, may be Provided with a base liange 12 by means o which the neck may be secured to the wall 13 of a container in any suitable manner. The tubular member is provided at its outer end with aflaterally extendin liange 14, which is adapted to form a gas et seat and which is rovided with recesses .or openings 15 and epending flanges 16. The metal of-the outeredge portion of the bottom partis bentuponlitself to form a reenforcing bead 22 whlch is engaged by the annular portion 23 of the top i part to rigidly and permanently secure said parts together. y y y For releasably retaining the cap member or closure 10 on the tubular member 11 I provide a locking member 24 having resilient fingers 25 which are adapted to enter the recesses 15 of the tubular member when the closure is applied to the tubular member.
Upon rotation of the closure the fingers engage.; the -cam portions 17 and dwellportions 18 and bear againstthe abutments 19.
` The locking member 24 .is carried by the boss 26 which is formed centrally of the botv tom part 18. As clearly shown in Fig. 3, portions of the bottom wall of the boss 26 are depressed to form the spaced lugs 27. These lugs serve as a retaining means for preventing the locking member from moving laterally relative to the boss, and in addition these lugs facilitate the proper positioninv of the lock ing member during-the assem ling of the parts. As a convementmeans for securing` the locking member 24 to the bottom part 181 provide a rivet 28 which 'extends through the locking member and through the bottom wall of the boss 26.
The rivet 28 is provided with apassage 29 therethrough which serves asa vent passage for admitting air to the container to prevent a vacuum from forming therein as fluid is withdrawn from the container. To prevent Huid from escaping through the vent passage 29, when the contents of the container is splashed about, I provide avalve 30. This valve is made light in construction so that when the contents ofthe container, to which lll the cap member has been applied, is splashed about the valve will be moved upwardly 4to I close the vent opening and thus prevent the escape of any of the contents. The valve consists of adisc member31, preferably of iexible material, such as leather, and a headed valve pin or stem 32 which passes through the valve disc and extends through the vent passage 29. The upper end of the valve pin 32 is bent as indicated at 33 to loosely retain the valve in place.
A cup shaped extension member 34 is preferably provided for engagement with the boss 26 and is permanently secured thereto by means of the rivet 28. The side wall of this extension member is provided with aligned openings 35 through which the resilient tingers 25 project. The extension member serves as a means for facilitating the centering. of the cap member when the same is applied to the .tubular member, and also serves as a housing which protects the locking member from damage. f
The bottom part 18 of the cap member is provided with a continuous axially extending rib 36 which aligns with the flange 14 of the tubular member, when the cap member is secured in position, and engages the gasket 37 interposed between the cap member and the tubular member to form an effective seal. Vent openings 38 are provided in the bottom part 18 of the cap member, and if desired a central opening 39 may be provided in the top part 17. Theseopenings serve @is vent passages leading to atmosphere from the space between the top and bottom parts forming the body portion of the cap member.
While I have shown and described the device of my invention in a. detailed manner, it should be understood, however, that I do not limit myself to tlie precise details shown and described, but regard my invention as including such changes and modifications as do not involve a departure from the spirit of my invention and the scope of the appended claims 1. A closure comprising a top part, a bottom part retained in said top part, a locking member, means for securing said lo/cking member to said bottom par said securing means having avent passage therethrough, and means for automaticallyp closing said vent passage.

A closure comprising a top part, a bottom part held in said to part, a locking member 'having resilient ngers, an extension member having openings through vwhich said fingers project, means for securing said extensionmember and said locking member to said bottom'part, said securing means having a vent passage therethrough, and means for automatically closing said vent passage'.
A closure comprising a top part, a bot- I tom part heldin said top part an having a central boss, an extension member epending from said boss, a locking member disposed in said extension member and having resilient fingers extending through openings in the Wall of said extension member, and means for securing said extension member and said locking member to said central boss, said securing means having a vent passage therethrough.
4. A closure comprising a top part, a bottom part held in said top part and having a central boss, an extension member depending from said boss, a locking member disposed in said extension member and having resilient fingers extending through openings in the wall of said extension member, means for securing said extension member and said locking member to said central boss, said securing means having a vent passage therethrough, and means for automatically clos-i ing said vent passage.
5. A closure comprising a topv part, a bottom part retained in said top part, a locking member, means securing said locking member to said bottom part, said securing means having a vent passage therethrough, and valve means for vautomatically closing said passage comprising a disk adapted to be pressed against the inner end of said securing means.
6. A closure comprising a top part, a bottom part retained in said top part, a locking gsaid disk adjacent the lower en of said connecting means whereby liquid splashed against said disk will press the same against said lower end.
