AHRENS, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO SEEGER REFRIGERATOR COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF MINNESOTA ADJUSTABLE REFRIGERATOR-UN IT HANGER Application filed August 12, 1927. Serial No. 212,509.
My invention relates to an adjustable refrigerator-unit hanger which is adapted for use in refrigerators to provide a means for supporting the refrigerator-unit within the refrigerator so as to firmly support the refrigerating unit in place.
A feature of the invention resides in a hanger having adjustable supporting members so as to adjust the hanger as to height 1 and to also adjust the same as to width.
This provides a hanger having a very material advantage so that the hanger is capable of being adjusted to the difierent size refrigerating units without having to make up a special hanger for each individual unit. Heretofore, owing to the diflerent size units used in refrigerators, particularly the units of the electric type, it was necessary to have a different hanger for each size of unit and this made it very impractical for the refrigerator dealer and manufacturer making it necessary for them to carry a large stock of different size hangers or having the hangers individually made to fit the particular unit.
It is also a feature of my invention to provide a collapsible refrigerator-unit hanger which may be folded into a compact state and shipped in this manner or stored away.
In the manufacture of certain refrigerators,
the same are provided with thimbles anchored in the lining which are adapted to receive stud bolts for the purpose of attaching the refrigerator-units to the lining of the refrigerator and my adjustable collapsible hanger is particularly adapted to this type of refrigerator so that the dealer may receive the refrigerator with or withoutmy hanger attached. My adjustable hanger permits the dealer to qluickly and readily adjust the hanger to tie particular unit that the customer desires to use within the refrigerator. My adjustable and collapsible refrigerator-unit hanger is also adaptable for use as an ice cradle so as to support the refrigerating-unit element or means within the hanger in a manner to provide a simple and desirable supporting means for the refrigerating-unit of the refrigerator.
My hanger includes means for supporting the lower end of the same adjustably with the lining of the refrigerator to steady the same at the bottom of the hanger to form a rigid support within the refrigerator proj ecting and extending from the lining.
These features together with other objects and details of the invention will be more fully and clearly set forth in the specification and claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification:
Figure l is a front view of my adjustable refrigerator-unit hanger as it would appear attached to the lining of the refrigerator.
Figure 2 is a side view of my hanger showing it attached to the lining of a refrigerator.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of my adjustable collapsible refrigerator-unit hanger.
In the drawings my hanger A is illustrated supported by the ceiling of the lining 10 of a refrigerator having depending supporting arms 11 which are provided with lugs 12.
The upper ends of the arms 11 are bent to form a right angular extending portion 18 which is provided with a longitudinal slot 14.
The refrigerator lining 10 is adapted to support the threaded thimbles 15 which are anchored to the lining in a manner to rigidly attach the same, and by means of the stud bolts 16 the arms 11 may be adjustably attached to the thimbles 15. The stud bolts 16 extend through the slots i l of the ends 13 of the arms 11 and this permits the arms 11 to be adjusted so that the proper width may be provided between the respective arms 11 for the width of the refrigerating-unit which is adapted to be supported by the hanger A, and which is not illustrated in the drawings.
The upper arms 11 are adapted to support support.
bracket arms 18 which depend and which are provided with right angularly extending overlapping portions 19. These portions 19 are formed with longitudinal slots 20 so as to receive the bolts 21 in a manner to clamp the overlapping portions 19 together in adjusted position.
Bottom arms 24 are provided for my hangar A which are adapted to extend along the bottom of the hanger and space the lower end members 19 apart to rigidly connect the parts and these bottom members are formed. with right angularly extending portions 25 which may project upward or downward from the overlapping portions 19. The ends 25 are formed with slots 26 which are adapted to be engaged by the stud bolts 16 to adjustably secure the ends 25 to the side wall 27 of the refrigerator lining 1O in'the same manner as the arms 11 are attached to the ceiling or top of the lining 10.
The lugs 12 which are carried by the depending arms 11 engage within the slots 28 formed in the depending brackets 18 and these slots are so formed as to provide a small upper portion with an enlarged lower portion which permits the lugs 12 to be released through the enlarged portion of the slots 28 and to be locked in the upper reduced or constricted portions of the slots. These lugs 12 with the slots 28 detachably secure the lower portion B of the basket or adjustable collapsible hanger A. This is important'as it permits the portion B of the hanger or basket A to be readily removed without disengaging "the arms 11 or changing the adjustment of the same. Obviously the bracket members 25 may be adjusted to simply bend against the side wall 27 or be attached by the stud bolts '16 and thus the lower portion may be taken away or disengaged from the members 11 by either just lifting it sufliciently to. disengage the lugs 12 through these slots 28 or by loosening the stud bolts 16 which are holding the portions 25 and then similarly releasing the lower portion B of the hanger or basket A.
It will be readily apparent that the hanger A is adjustable as to the height from the ceiling to the bottom of the same, also being adjustable as to the width and the length so that the hanger is adapted to be readily at tached to the refrigerator lining 10 of any refrigerator having suitable thimbles such as 15 to permit the hanger to be attached and adjusted to the unit which it is desired to Thus the customer in purchasing the refrigerator may select any unit and the dealer can adjust the hanger to the particular unit so as to firmly attach the same in a neat and tidy manner in the refrigerator. These'hangers may be suitably enameled so as to give a finished, appearance uniform with the enamel finish of the lining, thus providing very practical hanger means for the refrigerating unit.
The hanger A is collapsible as the parts are separable, one from the other, which permits the entire hanger A to be taken apart and nested together into a very small compact state. This is important because it permits the hanger to be either attached at the factory and then adjusted when ready for use for the particular refrigerating unit or shipped in av collapsed package or stored away in this manner ready for use at the proper time. lVith this adjustable collapsible hanger a much neater attachment can be made for practically any style of refrigcrating unit, permitting the unit to be placed in the proper adjusted position in the refrigerator. The bottom arms 24: hold the lower portion B steady and rigid in relation to the side 27, yet adjustable so that the lower portion B of the hanger A is properly spaced from the lining and held firmly in this position.
It'is readily apparent that my hanger A is adaptable as an ice hanger or basket, it only being necessary to provide the ordinary wood or metal slats on the sides and bottom of the same, together with the drip pan for collectingthe moisture melting from the ice. Thus my hanger A is particularly adapted to refrigerators to support the refrigerating unit or means in the desired position within the refrigerator and overcomes the necessity of having a separate hanger for each different size refrigerating unit. I have found my 100 hanger to be very desirable for this purpose and when the refrigerator lining is equipped with theattaching thimbles 15, the hanger is easily attached at any time after the refrigerator is finished. This permits 105 the customer to select the refrigerator he desires and also the particular refrigeratorunit giving him a selectivity of a combination not otherwise obtainable.
In accordance with the patent statutes, I have describedthe principles and particular features of my collapsible adjustable hanger for refrigerator units and ice compartments and while I have illustrated a particular form and construction of the parts, I desire to have it understood that the same is only suggestive of a means of carrying out my invention and that variations may be made within the scope of the following claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
