This invention relates to improvements in means for marking woven wire fabrics.
It is the especial object of the present invention to provide an efficient and permanent means for marking woven wire fabrics, which shall extend throughout the length of the woven wire fabric, forming a continuous and permanent part thereof, so that each piece cut therefrom shall carry a corresponding portion of the marker, and may be utilized for carrying the name of the manufacturer and any desired indicia as to the characteristics of the material, such as quality, width, size of mesh, etc.
This object is secured by weaving into the woven wire fabric, during its manufacture, a flat band or tape of fabric, paper or other such flexible material capable of receiving and retaining the desired indicia.
- In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, there is shown by way of illustration a construction embodying the invention and this construction will now be described in detailand the features forming the invention then specifically pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates astrip of woven wire fabric of standard width such as is commonly used for insect screens and various other purposes, this material being normally supplied by the manufacturer in roll form. Means for marking the material A comprises a fiat band or tape B of cloth, paper or other flexible material adapted to receive and retain the desired markings or indicia, This tape B is woven longitudinally into the woven wire fabric as it is manufactured, so as to form a continuous and permanent part" thereof, and is preferably located near the. edge or selvage thereof, and may, if desired, be woven along both edges of the wire fabric as shown.
Tape 'B'may carry suitable-indicia C, as shown in Figure 2, or other matterindicat ing the name of the manufacturer, quality of material, or the specifications thereof, etc. It will be observed that the band or tape B may be positioned otherwise than at or near the edge or edges of the woven wire fabric, the essential feature being that it is of a character permitting its being woven into the fabric with the strands thereof, so as to form a permanent, fixed and continuous marker running throughout the length thereof and of such character as to receive and retain the desired indicia as abo veexplained.

and weft wires and having permanently and weft wires and having permanentlywoven therein and coextensive therewith an identifying marker comprising a continuous band or tape of flexible material, said'marker having indicia carrying surfaces. 1
