Patented Dec. 8, 1931 PATENT GFFICE.
JOSE COLLANTES, OF MEXICO, MEXICO SYSTEM OF PLATES FOR FILING PLAR'S GR DRAWINGS Application filed October 1, 1930.
This invention relates to improvements in means for supporting drawings, plans or other large sheets of paper or the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient hanger of peculiar form adapted to receive and support special clamps to which the sheets are attached and from which the sheets are suspended.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hanger to receive the clamps which hold the sheets.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a clamp which not only supports the sheets but clamps same, and one which may 15 be readily applied to or removed from the hanger.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a hanger and clamp, whereby a drawing may be conveniently removed from a g! cabinet with the hanger or clamps, or removed from the clamps per se.
The invention also comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinas after described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hanger.
Figure 2 is an end View of the hanger.
Figure 3 is a detail front view of my improved clamp employed in association with the hanger.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the 5 clamp, illustrating a sheet clamped and supported thereby.
Figure 5 is a section of a cabinet illustrating how the hangers and clamps support sheets in storage.
Numeral indicates a hanger comprising a base with a central horizontal reinforcing rib 10, and a box-like lower portion 14. The upper edge of the hanger 10 is slotted at intervals, each slot opening through the edge, then curving downwardly and extending substantially horizontal as at 11, and terminating in a semi-circular enlargement 12. The box-like lower portion is formed at intervals with T-slots 15. The slots in the front wall of the box-like structure are T-shape, with Serial No. 485,789.
the central restricted portion l5 communieating with an open slot in the bottom of the box-like structure. lVith the slots so formed two horizontal flanges 15 are formed at the sides of the restricted portion to retain detachable clamps in position when the invention is in use.
16 indicates one of a series of clamps used in conjunction with the hanger. Each clamp consists of a lower depending plate 16, an r extend-ed reduced neck 16, and a horizontal head 18 the latter forming opposite flanges beyond the edges of the neck.
In other words this construction forms a T-head to fit in the T-shape slots in the hanger 10.
In the plate 16 is formed a slot 17, to provide a central. upstanding tongue 20, and two lateral smaller depending tongues 2121 which provide clamping meansfor the sheet 22. The smaller tongues depend from a larger central tongue made somewhat flexible by extending the ends of the slot 17 upwardly so as to separate said larger tongue from the body of the clamp.
In use, the hangers may be supported in a cabinet, as shown in Figure 5. The cabinet is provided with rods 13, one of which is shown in Figure 5. The rods 13 fit in the slots in the hanger and seat in the semicircular portions 12, and obviously the clamp may be conveniently inserted or removed from the cabinet.
A sheet of drawings or the like with its edge turned over as shown at 19 is supported by the clamps. This edge is slipped up behind the central tongue 20, and in front of the lateral tongues 21, and then drawn down with the central tongue seated in the fold of the turned-over edge 19, as shown in 1* ure 1. The box-like portion of the hunger is of sutlicient width to accommodate several clamps to support as many sheets, as shown in Figure 5.
W'Vhen the clamps are attached to a sheet, the T-heads slipped in the T-shape slots in the hanger and the lateral ends of the heads 18 drop behind the flanges 15 in the hanger and retain the clamp in place.
It is obvious I have provided a simple, safe and convenient way of suspending drawings or the like, and one which avoids the sheet being wrinkled.
What I claim is:
1. In means for supporting sheets, the combination of a horizontally disposed hanger formed on its upper edge with open slots, each of which has a horizontal portion terminating in a semicircular enlargement, a box-like structure in the bottom of the hanger, the box-like structure having T-shape slots in the front thereof, transverse slots in the bottom portion thereof which communicate with said T-shape slots and clamps having T-shape heads adapted to fit in the T-shape slots in the box-like structure 2. In means for supporting sheets, the com bination of a hanger formed on its lower portion with a box-like structure, the front of said structure having T-shape slots forming adjacent flanges and the bottom having transverse slots which communicate with the T-shape slots, and sheet clamps having T- shape heads which engage the slots in the box-like structure, the lateral extensions of the T-shape heads being supported on the bottom of the hanger, and the flanges preventing displacement of the clamps when as sembled with the hanger.
3. In combination, a hanger, clamps cooperating with the hanger, means between the clamps and hanger to form a support for said clamps, each clamp being slotted to form a central upstanding tongue and two depending tongues to receive and hold a sheet.
l. A clamp for the purpose specified comprising a flat slotted plate with a central upstanding tongue and a flexible pair of depending tongues adjacent the central upstanding tongue, and a T-shape head extending from the top of the flat slotted plate.
5. In combination a horizontal hanger provided on its upper portion with means adapting it to be supported, a box-like structure formed at the lower portion of the hanger, V
the front of the box-like structure having T-slots which communicate with transverse slots formed in the bottom of said structure, and clamps adapted to cooperate with the hanger, each clamp comprising a fiat plate formed with a slot to provide a central upstanding tongue and depending tongues adjacent the central tongue, whereby a sheet with its edge folded may be inserted in the slot and clamped and its folded edge engaged' over the central tongue, and a- T-shape head extending from each plate to lit in and cooperate with the slots in the hanger.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
