This invention relates to improvements in ranges, an object being to provide a range which may be positioned within a wall or recess so that only the front of the range will be exposed, and thus conserve space in a small kitchen, as well as reduce labor necessary in cleaning the outside walls of the range.
Another object of the inventionis the provision of a range of the above type which is of novel construction, having means to carry off smoke and fumes, so that the latter will not enter the kitchen and travel to other portions of a building, and means to provide convenient compartments for the reception of cooking utensils, the structure providing a pleasing and ornamental appearance when installed for use.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention further includes the followingl novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation with parts broken away showing a range constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figures 2, 3 and l are sections taken respectively on the lines 2 2, 3-3, and LL-li of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the range as shown comprises a cabinet or housing which is made up of a front wall10, side walls 11 and a rear wall 12. Extending horizontally of the housing is a plate 13 having openings for the accommodation of burners 14. This plate forms the bottom of a burner compartment 15 whose top is defined by inwardly inclined walls 16. These walls together with the rear wall 12 terminate in a restricted outlet 17 which is adapted for communication with a iiue and which is controlled by a damper 18.
The burners 14 may be either gas or electric burners. In the former event, the burners are controlled by valves 19, and where electric burners are utilized, suitable switches may be substituted for the valves.
-The front wall 10 of the housing is provided with openings for the accommodation cleaning and may be removably secured in place. The front portions of the drawers 2() are provided with air inlet openings 21.
Positioned beneath the burners are compartments 22 for the accommodation of cooking utensils and these compartments may be provided with shelves 23 and doors 24. An oven 25 is positioned within the burner compartment and its door 26 is provided with a 55 latch 27.
The front of the burner compartment is open and is adapted to be closed by a closure panel 28. This panel is mounted for vertical sliding movement in guides 29 provided in 70 the side edges of the front wall 10, the upper portion of this front wall providing a panel 30 which extends upward in front of the inclined walls 16 and above the open front of the burner compartment 15.
T.f desired, this burner compartment may be provided with an electric lamp 81.
The construction shown and described provides a cabinet range which may be positioned within an opening or recess in the wall of a room with the front wall Hush with the wall of the room. so that only the front wall of the range will be exposed. The closure. panel may be operated to entirely close the front of the range so that the burners will be bidden while the panels may be suitably ornamented. The burner compartment when closed will form a warming oven wh ere cooked food may be kept warm for an zip-'90 preciable period. A handle 32 may be provided on the closure panel to facilitate operation of the latter and this handle may have removable engagement with a resilient member 33 to hold the panel open. 95
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim. 10C
Having described the invention what is claimed is A range comprising a substantially rectangular shaped casing having the front wall l terminating ina plane below the sides and rear wallsand having the top and side walls inclined towardsy .the rear wallto provide a restricted outlet lto the casing, said casing K adapted to be located in a recess of aiwall of Y 10 -a room, a frame extending upwardly from 7 the front wall in front'o'ie the top wall,a panel l located in the frame and extending from the Y* upper edge of the front wall toa plane above? said topY wall toV conceal therinolination of l5 the top walland the outlet, a heat compartment-in the casing, meansto heatthe cornf partmena and a doorslidable in the ,iframe to closcthe heat .compartment when n one lposition 1and `adapted -to slide upwardly in V20 ffrontfof v*he panel when desiring to open said; compartment; f e In testimony whereofI aHX my signature.
