Description

C. R. HICKS.
REIN-SUPPORTINGATTACHMENT FOR NECK-YQKE.
,133,155 Patented on. 10, 1876.
WITNESSES:
JAMES ROSGOOD 8 CO BOSTON UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES R. HICKS, OF MOUNT STERLING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN RElN-SUPPORTING ATTACHMENTS FOR NECK-VOKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183, 165, dated October 10, 1876; application filed July 31,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES R. HIoKs, of Mount Sterling, in the county of Brown and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Neck-Yoke Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view; and Fig. 2, a sectional side elevation taken on line 0 c, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment to the neck-yoke of a two-horse team, by which the entangling of the lines that cross above neck-yoke with the tongue is prevented, and the annoyance occasioned thereby and danger of accident fully avoided.
The invention consists in attaching to the upper part of the neck-yoke a supportingplate with raised center part, having screwholes with different inclination, into which an arm with pivoted end-link and swiveled ring is secured, to sustain the lines at their point of crossing.
In the drawing, A represents a neck-yoke of the usual shape, attached to the wagontongue; B, a strong plate, which is attached to the upper part of the same by fasteningscrews or otherwise. The central part of plate B is raised, forming an oblong recess between neck-yoke and plate, and provided with screwholes, that are placed at suitable inclination to the vertical axis of plate B, so that the line-supporting arm 0 may be firmly screwed therein, either in forward or backward direction, according to the size of the horses in the team. A pivoted link, D, with a swivel ring, D, is applied to the outer end of arm 0, the lines being passed through ring D, which follows, jointly with the swinging link, the motion of the lines on the pulling and backing of the horses.
The swivel-ring D supports the lines at their point of crossing, at such height above the neck-yoke that no getting below the tongue, or other entangling of the same, is
possible, and thereby the reliable control of the lines and of the horses is secured.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A neck-yoke attachment for guiding the reins, composed of an arm having swinging end link and outer rein-supporting swivelring attached to the neck-yoke, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES R. HICKS.
