The present invention relates to brackets and actuators for Venetian or Louvre blinds.
The object of the present invention is the provision of -a very simple and economical 6 Venetian blind bracket and actuator, which is very rugged and durable, and which is of such construction as to be compact and inconspicuous and which also enables the blind to be readily removed from the supporting brackets and replaced without disturbing the actuating parts, thus 'rendering the dusting, cleaning or removing and replacement of the blind a very simple and easy operation which can be performed by anyone without difficulty.

The Louvre or Venetian blind shown in Figures 1 and 2 consists of a plurality of spaced superposed slats 10 supported or connected together by such means and in such a manner as to be brought into overlapping or edge to edge position, or to be shifted to lie in spaced parallel position. This is usually ac# complished by two airs of straps, cables or chains 11, one pair eing positioned at each end portion of the blind and having the slats for securing in position a segmental gear 20.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a support- 1930. Serial N0. 470,973. positioned between sai-d cables or straps and secured thereto. The cables or straps 11 are connected to a top or header slat 12 so that by tilting the header slat 12 from vertical to horizontal position or intermediate positlons, the desired adjustment of the slats 10 can be obtained. These blinds are usually provlded with raising and lowering means whereby the slats 10 may be movedadjacent the header Slat to raise the blind or drop it, as indicated in the drawings, to lower the blind. However, such raisin and lowering means are not shown in t is disclosure. Blinds of this type' are well-known in the art, and the present invention is applicable to any blind of this general type. j
The invention resides particularl 'in the combined bracket-actuator indicate bythe character A. This bracket-actuator A comprises a bracket proper 14, which consists of 70 a depending plate having a laterally extending flange 15 at its upper edge. The dependlng plate of thc bracket is reduced in Width toward its lower end and is formed with a laterally extending boss 16 on the inner face 75 of its lower extremity from which rises a substantially vertical rib 17. An opening 18 is provided throughl the boss and the plate through which a rivet or spindle 19 extends In the presentinstance, the member 19 is in the`form of a hollow ended rivet which extends through an opening in the segmental gear, the hollow end being spread in the opening to firmly bind the segment to the rlvet, the rivet rotating in the opening 18.
The segmental gear 20 is actuated by a worm 21 carried on the shaft 22 which is supported in bearing lugs 23 and 23 formed on the inner face of the plate near one corner thereof. These lugs are in the form of lateral projections having aligned openings therein through which the shaft 22 extends. The gear and worm are positioned so that they mesh throughout the perimeter of the gear. The other end of the shaft 22 has fastened thereon a pulley wheel 24, having a tapering groove '25 therein extending around its periphery in acircuitous or serpentine'fashion for receiving a pulley cord 13. The lug 23 is 100 formed with a disc 26 having a laterally extending ilange 27 extendin .from then per portion of its edge to over 1e the ,perip ery of the pulley 24, and to partially house the pulley. Thus it will be seen that because of the tapered serpentine character of the groove I25 and the position of the shield lian e 27,
\ strains or stresses which may be applied to the gear through the blind.
The bracket-actuator just described consists of a minimum of parts. The parts 14, 15, 16, 17, 23, 23', 26 and 27 are preferably one casting. `The Worm 21 and the shaft 22 are preferably one casting having the pulley wheel 26 riveted thereon. This bracketactuator is secured at the top of a window or door opening to the under surface thereof by suitable fasteners, such as screws. nails, or the like, extended through openings in the flange 15 so as to suspend the racket-actuator in a manner well understood in the art, and as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, for supporting one end of the Venetian blind header slat 12, the other end of the header slat being rotatably supported in a slotted bearing bracket B.
In order to support the header slat on the bracket-actuator A, the segmental gear 20 is provided with an extension or'shiftable member 20 having, preferably, a pair of openings 28 therein, one arranged on each side of its axis or pivot pin 19. These openings 28 are for the purpose of receiving two projecting pins 29 carried on a coupling member 30. This coupling member preferably consists of an angular strip of rigid material adapted to be fixedly secured to one end of the header slat, as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4.
Of course it is within the perview of the present invention to substitute for the two openings and their complemental connecting pins 29, a single angular opening and a corresponding pin. However, by the present arrangement, the pins 29 are made sufficiently long to project through the openings 218 and strike with the rib 17 which thus performs, not only the function of a staying support for the segmental gear 20, but serves to limit the rotative movements of the gear in both directions of its movement. By so limiting the movement of the gear 20, the latter is 'prevented from disengaging with the worm so long as the pins 29 are in the openings 28.
The bracket B consists of an angular member having one leg a.' formed with openings through which fastening members may pass for securing the bracket in position to the under side of the top of a window opening, or the like; the other leg depending and formed with an angular slot y extending from one of its side edges for adistance inwardly and then downwardly, the last mentioned portion of said slot having a restricted portion therein which tends to hold a trunnion 31 on one end of the header slot 12 from accidental displacement.
It will thus be manifest that a Venetian blind can be readily removed from its supporting brackets A and 'B by lifting the trunnion 31 from the slot y of the bracket B which will permit the coupling pins 29 to be withdrawn from the openings 28 on the segmental gear 2() Without disassembling any of the actuating parts of the actuator. It is obvious also that the blind may be positioned in place bv first inserting the pins 29, on one end of the header slot 12, into the openings 28, and then inserting the trunnion 3l in the slot y of the bracket B.
In this specification and the annexed drawings, the invention is disclosed in the form in which it is considered to be the best, but the invention ,is not limited to such form because it is capable of being embodied in 'other forms; and it is to be understood that in and by the claims following' the description herein it is intended to cover the inve-ntion in whatever form it may embody within the scope thereof.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket, a shiftable member mounted on the bracket for tilting the header of the blind, means for actuating said shiftable member, attaching means carried by the header of the blind and removably interengageable with said shiftable member.
2. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket, a member rotatably mounted on said bracket, and an attaching member securable to the header of said blind and having projecting means thereon removably interengaging said rotatable member to move therewith and to support said header, and means for actuating said rotatable member.
3. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket, al rocker member mounted on said bracket and supported thereby, and rojecting means carried on the header of sald blind and removably insertable in a complemental opening in said rocker member whereby the header is supported by and moves with said member, and means for actuating said rocker member.
4. A bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket plate, a rotatable member mounted on said `plate, andan attaching tatable member and means for actuating said rotatable member.
5. A supporting bracket :for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket plate havingl means whereby it may be secured in position, a segmental gear pivotally mounted on said plate2 a. worm mounted on said plate and meshing with said segmental gear, a pair of spaced projecting pins carried by the head of the blind and removably insertable in openings in said segmental gear.
6. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket plate having means whereby it may be secured in position, a segmental gear rotatably mounted on said plate, a worm mounted on said plate and meshing with said segmental gear, a rib on said plate and lying between said segmental .gear and said plate, and an attachin bracket securable to the header of said b d and having a pair of spaced projecting pins thereon removably insertable in openings in said segmental ear and adapted to alternately engage sai rib.
7. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket member having means whereby it may be secured in position, a rotatably movable member for attachment to the blind header, means f or actuating said movable member, including a grooved pulley, a flexible pulley element trained over the grooved pulley, and a projection on said bracket extending artially around the periphery of the pulley and opposite said groove therein.
8V. The combination with a Venetian blind having a header, of supporting bracket means comprising a bracket for one' end of the header including a bracket member, a rotatably shiftable member on said bracket member means whereby said member may be actuate means on the end of said header removably insertable in said shiftable member; and a bracket for the other end of said header comprising a slotted bracket member, and a trunnion on said other end of the header readily insertable into and removable from said slotted bracket member.
9. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a bracket member having an abutment thereon, a rotatable member mounted on sadbracket, means for actuating said rotatable mem r, said bracket including attaching means carried by the header and removably attachable to said rotatable member, whereby the header ma be tilted by the movement of said rotatab e member, said attaching means also being ositioned to cooperate with theabutment, w en in attachin position for the movement of sai rotatable member.
10. A supporting bracket for Venetian blinds comprising a supporting member, operable means mounted on said'bracket me ber for tiltingl the header of Venetian blinds, said bracket including attaching means carried by the header and removably'interengageable with said operable means whereby the header may be supported in position and readily removable therefrom.
11. The combination with a Venetian blind having a header, of blind supporting means comprising a bracket member for one end of the eader, operable means on said bracket member for tilting said header, and means carried by the header removably interengageablc with an operative element of said operable means whereby said end of the blind is supported, and a bracket member for the other end of the header comprising a slotted bracket member, and a trlmnion on said other end of the header readily movable into and removable from the slot of said last bracket member.
12. A sup orting bracketfor Venetian blinds includling a bracket member having means whereby 1t may be secured in position, a gear element rotatably mounted on the bracket, a worm rotatably mounted on the bracket and meshing with said gear element, a shiftable member rotatable by said gear element and having a pair of spaced openings therein, and a pair of spaced projecting pins carried by the header of the blind and removably member. e
13. A supporting bracket for the Venetian blinds including a bracket having means whereby it may be secured in position, a gear element rotatably mounted on the bracket, a worm rotatably mounted on the bracket and meshing with said gear element, a shiftable member rotatable by said gear element and having a pair of spaced openings therein, one on each side of the axls of rotation of said member, andan attaching means including a pair of spaced projectin pins carried by the header of the blind an removably insertable in said openings in said shiftable member to project beyond said openings, and an abutment on the bracket to be alternately engaged by extremities of said pins during the rotative movements of said shiftable 'member to limit the movements thereof.
