SAFETY RAZOR FRAME Filed Dec. 19, 1928 ATTORNEYS Patented Get. 27, 1,931
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HYMAN R. SEGAL, OF NEW YORK N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 SEGAL SAFETY RAZOR CORPORA` `'.IION, QF N'EW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION 0F NEW YORK SAFETY RAZOR FRAME Application led December 19, 1928. Serial No. 327,005.
This invention relates to improvements insafety razors.
It is a primary object of the invention to provide a safety razor which will hold a removable blade in satisfactory position for shaving and to facilitate the introduction and removal of the blade to and from the holding frame. t
It is a further object to provide safety razor holding devices which will permit the outer blade holding plate to be moved bodily toward or from the blade which has been assembled on the guard but retainin againstl being entirely separate frame.
These and other objects will appear more fully from the following description when considered in connection with the drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view taken at right angles to Fig. 1, showing the blade holding plate moved to blade removing position.
F ig. 8 is an outer face view of the construction shown in Fig. 1. L
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modification of my invention.
Fig. 5 is an end elevational view of the same and Fig. 6 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 4 showing the blade holding plate moved to open position.
It has been found in razors of the type herein referred to that one great difHculty in the use of the razors is that in the complete separation of the parts forming the blade holding frame it is diicult to properly clean the parts and furthermore there is liability of them being displaced to the inconvenience of the user of the razor. According to my invention the cleaning of the parts is facilitated and at no time during the normal use of the the plate from the razor are the parts of the blade holding frame entirely separated from one another.
Referring to the details of the cdrawings and particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 wherein I have shown the first form of my invention, I have shown at 8 a. usual shank preferably knurled to afford a better grip and integrally outwardly through the blade 12 and throughr plate 16 referred to below. The interior of the shank 8 is hollow and supplied with the attachment bolt 18 formed with the knurled operating portion 19 and screw-threaded portion 20 for receiving the plate 16. It is preferred to lock the bolt 16 against removal from the shank 8 as by means of the pin 21 fitting in the circular slot 22 of the bolt.
The plate 16 must necessarily move inwardly and outwardly1 from the guard l0 in order to permit the removal of the blade from the guard 10 and lugs 14. To this end the plate is formed with side or yoke members 24 which may be integrally formed on the plate 16 and extended rearwardly and inwardly into positions adjacent the shank 8. The inner rearward ends of the members 24'are slotted as at 26 and received over the headed pins 28 so as to permit 1ongitudinal and pivotal movement of the plate 16 with respect to the shank 8 and guard 10. As shown in the drawings, the pins 28 are formed on a collar 30 swaged upon the shank 8 although obviously any other form of pivotal and 'sliding connection may be employed.
According to the second form of my invention shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 the, entire shank 82 is formed as one piece swivelled to the guard 34 as indicated at 36 and formed with the outer screw threads 38 for receiving the outer plate 40. The guard 34 shown in Figs. 4 to 6 is formed with a usual comb edge 50. The devices for movably and pivotally supporting the plate 40 upon the guard 34 according tol this form of the invention comprise the side plate 42 slotted as in dicated at 44 and received on the transverse pin 46 supported upon the side 1ugs`48 formed directly on the guard 34.
The movement of the plate 16 or 40 witl1 respect to the guard is clearly indicatedin Figs. 2 and 6. It will be understood that a certain movement of the plate on a right line toward or from the guard is necessary, according to the disclosure herein, due to the exing of the blade about the are of the outer surface of the guard. buch movement avoids displacing the blade when the plate is moved toward the assembled blade and guard. Furthermore this, right line movement of the plate with respect to the guard allows accurate threading of the stud 20-01 38 into the threaded aperture of the outer plate.
The use of the razor will be readily apparent from the above description. v
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A safety razor including, in combination, a handle, a guard, studs mounted upon said guard and projecting upwardly therefrom, a clamping plate for association with sadl guard, said plate being formed with holes for the reception of said studs, a rod for engaging said clamping plate and slidable within said handle, a circular slot formed in; said rod near the plate engaigring end thereof, a pin projecting inwardly o ing movement of said rod, downwardly extending side larms forming a part of said` plate, said arms having slots at their lower ends, and means carried by said handle and extending through said last-named slots forv engaging said arms whereby the movement of said clamping plate with .respect to said guard is limited.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 18th day of December, A. D. 1928.
