WIENER STEAMER Filed May 31, 1930 W W fiaze.
Patentedl Oct. 27, 1931 1+ WILLISW. HALE, OF CLVELAND, OHIO,
wmnnn s'rEAMER a i Application filed May 31, 1930Q; Serial No. 4L58,25t1.`
This invention has to do with steam cooking appllances for cookmg wlener sausages,
and the like, and refers more particularly to o an appliance of this class provided with com- 5 partments, in any one of which the wieners to be served are sequestered from those being prepared for future use.-
In connection with this type of wiener steamer, the chamber Vis partitlonally divided and is provided with two distinct closures. The inner closure is so constructed that it forms a closure and indicator for one of the compartments in which sausages are being cooked when the outer closure has been removed to obtain access to wieners in the other compartment, the latter'having already been cooked.
The closure may be bodily removed and reversed to form a cover or closure for any,
one of the compartments. The inner closure is mounted on the top of the wall forming the chamber, and the outer is so constructed that it is surmounted on and cooperates' with the inner closure.
A special object in view is to utilize the inner closure not only .as a closure means, but also to act as a brace for the separating partition of the compartments.
Like reference characters indicate lik parts throughout the drawings; w
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation, of a wiener steamer comprising an inner `closure embodying my invention, portions Vbeing broken away.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view` The chamber or vessel A of somewhat cylin-.
drical form is carried by a base B which is preferably, an 'electric heater of some type, thoughV other kinds of heating means might be used within the purview of the invention. a The vessel'orschamber A -is -removable relai tivelyto the base' when it is desired to clean the whole appliance or otherwise handle the same as for shipment, etc. Since the constru'ction of the vessel A andthe base are not important to the-present invention, they will not be further'describe'd." Y It suflices to state` that I contemplate dividing the chamberA into two compartments'p'refe'rably, though it might, be divided into a greater number of compartments. For the above 'purpose I utilize a partition 3V 05 Vwhich permits of separation of the wieners V or sausages whichV are 1n process lof being cooked from those which 'may be already cooked a'nd ready to dispense. The partition w 3 is detachably secured by means not shown, to a plate carried by the base B and upon which the vessel or Vchamber A is supported. At its upper end the Partition 3 terminates in a plane about that horizontally intersecting the upper end; ofthe Chamber A. Now it is desirable that in the use of my appliance some indicating means be employed to advise the'user in which one of the compartments designated 6 and 7 at opposite sides of the partition 3, the sausages in 30 process of coo'king are retained, and which one of the compartments contains those sausages that are cooked and ready to dispense. With the above in mind, therefore, I utilize .i an inner closure 4, the closure portion of 35 which is about semi-circular in form and comprisesa. circular rim 8 which lconforms with the circular formation of the upper yend of the chamber or vessel A. At itsA central portion. 'considering central with relation to '90' its meaning appertainingto the' vessel A, the closure 4 is formed with a downwardly extending fiangelO adapted to contact with one side of' the upper end of the parti- M, tion, said flange havingstruck out therefrom a projectio'n, 11 disposed in a plane spacedfrom the'flange and adapted to engage over and interlock with the upper end of the partition,; in` Cooperation with theM flange 10. Suitable vent holes 12 will be prowo vided in the closure 4 for the usual purpose. Disposed above the inner closure 4 is the outer closure 5 having a suitable handle 5a affixed thereto in any substantial manner. The closure 5 is of circular form and formed with a fiange or rim 5b to engage over the circular flange or rimv8 of the inner closure. Now it will be apparent that if wieners or similar articles of food are being cooked in the compartment 6 it is desirable 'that the upper end of this compartment be kept closed when the cover 5 is removed to have access to the vessel A respecting its other compartment 7 in which already cooked sausages may be disposed prepared for dis-l pensing to the public. 'VWhen a sup ly of sausages inthe 'colnpartment 7 is su stantially exhausted, having been dispensed we will say,` thecompartment is refilled with a fresh supply of sausagesor similar articles of food, and: then the inner closure 4 is reversed from .the positionof Figure 1 so as to extend over the compartment 7 and close the latter. While V the fresh supply of sausagesis being cooked. The sausages after this time aredispensed preferably from the compartment wherein a suitable supply has been previously oooked, in an obvious manner.
Underthe foregoing conditions, the closure, 141 afi'ordsan `-advantageous indicator as- Sistingtheuser of 'the appliance to determine from which one of the compartments 6 and 7 he should dispense the cooked articles of food. Moreover, the closure4 is advantageous in retaining the steam or heat in one of the compart- ments 6 and 7 in which the cooking operation is going OnLnOtWithStanding the cover viszremoved to have access to the vessel A.
i Itisnoted also that in view of the fact that the rim 8 of the closure 4 is beneath the rim portion of the closure 5, when desired, the two closures may be removed by simply lifting up on the rim 8 of the inner closure.
The term'wiener steamer includes a cookingand steamer appliance generally, and the claims should be read in the light of my understanding. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is-- 1.
