UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE IMPROVEMENT lN COMBINED STEP AND HUB-BAND.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,839,
dated October 3, 1876 application filed August 28, 1876.
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT MCDONALD, of Georgetown, in the county of Clear Creek and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Safety-Step, Hub-Band, Nut, and Dust-Box for Carriages, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 00 x in Fig. 1.

This invention consists in the combination of a step, hub-band, nut, and dust-box for carriages, comprised in a single casting.
A is a band, which is of sufficient size to inclose the end of the carriage-hub, and is divided in the center by a web, B. A nut, O, is formed at the center of the web, and is provided with the usual recess for the washer a, and with the square portion b. D is a step, cast upon one side ofthe band A, and strength ened by ribs or brackets c. The upper surface of the step is roughened or serrated to insure a firm foot-hold. An aperture, d, is cut in the lower side of the band to permit the escape of dust.
