Description

Sept. 29, 1931. .1. G. TsAGARls FEEDING MECHANISM Filed July 16. 1929 Patented Sept. 29, 1931 YUNITED STATES PATENT 'oFFlC'E a JOHN G.TSAGARIS, kF WEST MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP, ERIE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO ERIE CITY IRON WOR-KS, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA Application filed July 16,
signed to accomplish this purpose and to V lock the feeding mechanism in adjustment for various feeds and also to indicate in a simple and convenient manner the adjustment of the feeding mechanism. Other features and details of the invention will appear from the specification and claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows:-
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the device.
Fig. 2 an elevation, a part being broken away to a section to better show the mechanism.
Fig. 3 a side elevation'of the locking finger. 4
l marks the frame of the feeder. A discharge opening 2 extends through the frame. The frame is provided with a vertical bearing 3 carrying a shaft A which is driven from any convenient source of power (not shown). A feed table 5 is mounted on the upper end of the shaft and is rotated by the shaft. A deflecting finger 5a engages the material on the feed table and defiects the material into the discharge opening. A feed chamber 6 has a surrounding fiange 7 which is secured to a surrounding flange S on the frame. Arms 9 lead fromv the walls of the feed chamber to a nut 10 which is preferably concentric with the feed tablef this way the quantity of feed may be varied.
In order to lock the tube in adjustment a locking finger 15 is provided. This finger is pivotally mounted on a pin 16, the pin FEEDING MECHAN ISM 1929.` serial No. 378,786.
extending between-V ears 17 carried by the iiange 7. A spring 18 is coiled around the pin 1G andvhas one end engaging the flange 7 In operation, when it is desired to ad-V just the feed, the finger 15 is withdrawn and the tube .screwed up, or down, by means of the handle 14 and again locked by the finger 15. Preferably the finger is in the shape of a fork which straddles one of the handles 14;, but the tendency of the tube is to move onlyV in one direction and in some instances only one sideV of the fork may be required.
A stirring finger 19 may be secured tothe shaft 4. A convenient way of securing this finger is by extending it from a nut 20 screwed on to the upper end of the shaft and securing the turn table' 5 on the shaft.
That I claim as new is 1. In a feeding mechanism, the combination of a frame; a rotating feeding plat-V form mounted in the frame; a feed tube above `the platform; means adjusting the tube toward and from the platform comprising a screw formed on the surface of the tube; and a finger mounted on tlie frame locking the tube in adjustment.
2. In a feeding mechanism, the combination of a frame; a rotating feeding platform mounted in the frame; a feed tube above the platform; means adjusting the tube toward and fromthe platform; and means locking the tube in adjustment com prising a yielding locking finger and an abutment, one on the tube and the other on the frame. Y
3. In a feeding mechanism, the combination of a frame; a rotating feeding platform mounted in the frame; a feed tube above the platform; means adjusting the CII tube toward and from the platform eom prising a screw formed on the surface of the tube; and means locking the tube in adjustment comprising a springaetuating finger on the frame and an abutment on the tube.
4. In a feeding mechanism, the combination of a frame; a rotating feeding platform mounted in the frame; a feed tube above the platform; means adjusting the tube toward and from the platform comprising a screw formed on the surface of the tube; means looking the tube in adjustment comprising a spring-actuated finger on the frame and an abutment on the tube; and a scale on the finger.
In a feeding mechanism, the combination of a frame; a rotating;` feeding platform mounted in the frame; a feed tube above the platform; means adjusting the tube toward and from the platform comprising a screw formed on the surface of the tube; and means locking the tube in adjustment comprising operating handles extending from the tube and a spring-aetuated finger on the frame engaging the handles.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN Gr. TSAGARIS.
