Patented Sept. 29, 1931 PATENT OFFICIE JOSEPH JAEG, OF BERN, SWITZERLAND DEVICE FOR KEEPING \VARM AND DAMP COMPRESSES FOR LOCAL BODILY TREATMENT Application filed May 28, 1930, Serial No. 456,671, and in Switzerland June 1, 1929.
This invention relates to a device for keeping warm and damp compresses for local bodily treatment consisting of a receptacle with heat insulating jacket and containing an electric heating bulb or the like.
The object of this invention is the appli cation of heat and vapors to compresses employed in the treatment'of bodily pains or diseases and it consists of a heating head having a double walled cylindrical body, an outer end wall carrying an electric lamp and a cup shaped application piece to be applied to the compress, the double walled body being provided 'with a handle and adapted to contain a medical liquid the vapors of which are led by means of a pipe towards said cup shaped application piece.
These and other features of the invention specified in the appended claim will be better appreciated from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section,
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
To the outer end wall b of the cylindrical part of the device, which may be hollow and lined with heat insulating material a holder for an electric incandescent lamp is fastened. Said holder is provided with a switch 0 and a bore for the leading-in of the cable. The outer end wall I) is removably arranged on a cylindrical jacket. The inner and middle wall of said cylindrical jacket form an annular space for a liquid jacket 0, whereas a heat-insulatingmaterial f is inserted between the middle and outer wall. The threewalled cylindrical jacket is provided with an inlet nozzle 9 for the liquid which may .be screwed up and into which opens a vapor leading-off pipe h. Oppositet'he bottom wall 6 the cup shaped application piece 2' is also removably fastened e. screwed on to the cylindrical jacket, said cup shaped application piece serving as seat and tightening surface. The shape of said cup shaped application piece, which is lined with heat insulating material, is fitted to the place of body to be treated. A support- 10 serves as stand for the apparatus Moreover the apparatus is provided with a handled.
The mode of application of the device is the following:
The annular space of the liquid jacket having been filled with a boiling liquid, e. g.
. water, and the electric heating bulb been switched in, the device is tightly put on the compress by means of the cup shaped application piece 2' and maintained in said position by the handle, or mounted on the support it or in any other suitable manner. By the heat radiation of the heating bulb the compress is continuously kept warm on the one hand by the direct heat radiation and on the other hand by the vapor led thereto over the pipe it. Moreover the vapor keeps the compress constantly damp.
The device may also be operated without liquid, so that it can be used as warming pan or as lighting body. In order to adapt the device to the use as irradiation lamp a parabolic mirror may be added thereto,
which may be inserted or screwed behind the incandescent lamp.
Claim:
In a device for applying heat and dampness to compresses for local bodily treatment and in combination, a closed cylindrical receptacle having an annular cross section and a heat insulated outside wall, a.
nozzle opening into said receptacle, an outer end wall provided at one end of the cyllndrlcal receptacle and a cup shaped application piece provided at the other end and adapted to be applied to the body part to be treated, a heating lamp carried by said outer end wall and extended into the hollow space of the receptacle and a steam conduit establishing the communication between said nozzle and the opening of the mouth-piece.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
JOSEPH J AEG.
