Description

' same is illustrated in the drawi Patented Sept. 29, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CARI: OTTO, OF ESSEN-VRUHR, GERMANY Application'mea Jamiary 2s, 192s, serial no.
anple, coke oven gas, that the strong gas distributing channels are located ,beloweach oven bottom and are adapted to be connected to the gas main or to be shut off therefrom, so that according to the heating direction either only the channels located below alternate or evennumbered oven chambers or onl' those located under th'e intermediate, or oddsnumbered chambers are fed ,withgas In order to allow of the invention to be more easily understood, an embodimentl ofy which accompany and form partof this specilication. Figure 1 is a vertical cross section showing the distributing channels below each oven chamber.
Figure-2 is a horizontal section, showing the distributing channels connected to the gas main.
rIhe illustrated embodiment differs from the combined regenerative ooke oven described and illustrated in my co-pending parent application substantially in the fact, that the underfire heating is replaced by the strong gas supply which is described in detail in the following. f
As will be seen from the drawings, strong gas distributing channels a, al are arranged below each horizontally elongated oven chamber 1, 2, 3, 4 immediately belowthe bottom of the chamber.- Of these channels the channel a is communicably connected by conduits 7 and burners 8 with all odd-numbered heating flues 5 of one heating wall,
248,940, and in Germany February 28, 1927.
all even-numbered heating lues 6 of the neighboring heating wall. The arrangement is such, that according tothe heating direction either only the channels a, a1, located below alternate of even-numbered oven chambers. or those located below the intermediate or odd-numbered ones are fed with gas. Of course, the channels located below one oven chamber might be combined so as to form a single channel.
The gasmain 13 may be connected by means of a main valve 14 and a valve 15, with conduits 16 and 17. The conduit 16, is connected by means of the valves 18, to each of the distributing channels a, and the conduit 17, is connected, by means of valves 19, with each of the distributing channels al. By means of the valves- 18 and 19, strong gas may thus be supplied to the distributing channels located under the even numbered oven chambers, or to the distributing channels below the odd-numbered chambers, as desired.
In comparison with the colnbined regenerative coke oven described .in m co-pending parent application the invention affords the advantage of the regenerators being not longer interrupted by the strong gas ascension conduits. As the brickwork between these strong gas `conduits and the neighboring regenerator spaces must be made rather thick,` to obviate leakages from these strong gas conduits, a considerable undesired reduction of the regenerator space or width of regenerator chamber is caused. With the regenerative'coke oven designed according to the invention the regenerator space is notably increased, as strong gas ascension conduits are obviated. Besides this, the further advantage is obtained of any passage of gas from the strong gas distributing channels fed with gas to those shut off from theg'as supply is obviatedwith certainty due to their mutual local separation.
In a regenerative coke oven battery, provided with a series of alternate horizontally elongated oven chambers and heating walls therefor, arranged side by side in a row,
a stro 1 munica ly 'connecting said channels to the each heating wall comprising a row of vertical combustion `lues, regenerators extending below and in the direction of the oven chambers, strong gas distributing chann s located below the bottom `of each of sai oven chambers and above the regenerators,
gas supply main, means for commain, means for alternately supplying strong gas from said main to the distributing channels located below alternate oven chambers and to the distributing channels located below the chambers intermediate said alternate chambers, and conduits communicably connecting said distributing channels with the heating lues. l
' In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
v CARL OTTO.
