sides in the ease with which this sign can bemounted or dismounted on the hood of a vehicle.
Other objects, advantages, and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawings, the subjoined detailed description, and the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary, side elevation of the hood of a vehicle with my sign placed 0 thereon.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary, perspective view of a radiator illustrating the position of my sign thereon.

ings. my sign includes afiat rectangular strip 1 formed of any suitable material, and the sign is written orinscribed thereon. I The strip 1 is grasped or secured at both ends thereof by fittings 23. said fittings being detachably mounted on the vehicle, as will be further described. I
The strip 1 is secured to the fittings 23 by any suitable means. and I have here shown bolts t which extend through the fittings and through the strip. thus detachably mounting the strip in the fittings. The strip is provided with elongated slots 5 at both ends thereof so that the fittings can be moved longitudinally a short distance to compensate for slight variations in length.-
Mysign is mounted directly above the hood and runs lengthwise of said hood, and the usual vehicle construction comprises a radiator 6, a dash 7 and a hinged hood 8. The hinge of the hood as shown at 9 runs between Referring more particularly to the drawthe radiator and the dash, and the pm of the hmge i's secured in bearings at the radiator and at the dash. My method of fastening hoe-d so that when the hood is clamped down, the-sign will be securely held. Both the radiator and the dash are provided with a sill 1010 on which the hood rests.
comprises clamping supporting feet under the V The fittings 23 are identical in construction, and only one will be described in detail. A pair of spaced integrally formed plates 11-1l form a channel between which the strip-1 is placed. The bolts 4 extend through the plates 1111 to hold the strip in position, as previously stated. Below the plates 11, and integrally formed therewith, I provide a pair of spaced feet 12-12. These feet are spaced a sufficient distance so that they straddle the hinge 9. This space is shown at 13. A recess 14 is provided in the wall 15 which extends between the feet 12 and the plates .1111. The purpose of this recess is to fit over the hinge or the bearings at both ends of the hinge.
My sign is mounted by placing the feet 12 on either side'of the hinge 9, said feet rest- -ing' on the sills 10. The sides of the hood are now lowered and the feet are thus tightly clamped between the sill and the hood,
securely holding the sign in position.
Having described my invention, I claim: 1. A hood sign comprising a strip extending substantially the length of the hood, a'
fitting on either end of said strip, means detachably securing said fittings to the strip, a foot on the fittings, said foot being adapted to fit under the hood and secured thereby when the hood is in lowered position.
2. A hood sign comprising a strip upon 50 p which the sign is inscribed, a fitting at both ends of said strip, means detachably securing said fittings to the strip, a pair of integrally formed, spaced feet on the fittings, said feet being adapted to be engaged by the hood in the lowered position thereof.
3. A hood sign comprising a strip on which the sign is inscribed, a pair of fittings, one at either end of. the strip, means detachably securing the fittings to the strip, each fitting including a pair of integrally formed and ion spaced feet below said strip, said feet being positioned on either side of the hood hinge, the hood being adapted to press upon the feet whereby the fittings are held in position.
4. A hood sign comprising a strip upon which the sign is inscribed, a fitting at either end of the strip, said fitting comprising a pair of integrally formed spaced plates between which said strip is mounted, means securing the strip to the plates, a pair of spaced feet below said plates and integrally formed therewith, a Wall connecting the feet ,and the plates, said wall having a notch formed therein, said feet being adapted to be engaged by the hood whereby the fittings are held in position. i r In testimony whereof, I atlizrniy signature.
HOWARD A, BAKER.
