My invention relates to an improvement in ground connecter and the novelty consists in the adaptation and arrangement of parts as will be more fully hereinafter pointed out.
As a water pipe located in the cellar is almost uniformly the grounding means for electrical circuits there is a serious problem in bringing a conduit carrying the ground wire to said water pipe as the conduit often does not go down to the water pipe in a direction which is readily adaptable to securin the same to the water pipe.
11y device solves this problem by insuring a perfect fastening of said conduit to the water pipe together with the ground wire in a perfect grounding position regardless of the direction in which the conduit may approach the water pipe. 7
My device also insures the complete protcction of the ground wire from the conduit to the grounding water pipe to prevent accidental breaking of the ground wire or defective fastening of the same to the ground pipe.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of my device mounted on a ground pipe.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of Figure 1 on the line 2-2.
Figure 3 is a perspective of my device connected to the ground pipe in an entirely dif ferent position from that shown in Figure 1.
In the drawings, at is a conduit connecter having an internal threading 5 at one end in order to secure said connecter 4 to the conduitpipe. At the opposite end of the conduit connecter is a circular dial member 6 which has radial corrugations 7 cut in the underside thereof and an internally threaded boring 8.
A clamp 9 having a series of holes 10 therein and a wire pocketing socket 11 stamped therein and terminating in a wire outlet 12 is adapted to be secured around a ground pipe 13 and be securely fastenedto the conduit connecter 4 by means of a threaded bolt 14 having a head 15 and a clamping plate 16, said bolt 14 being fastened through a selected pair of holes 10 and threading through the internally threaded boring 8.
A ground wire 17 passing through the conduit connecter 1 will be pocketed in the pocketing socket 11 of the pipe clamp 9 and the terminal end of said wire 17 will pass through the opening 12 to'indicate that the.
ground wire is in its fixed grounded position on the grounding pipe 13.
' One of the principal advantages of my device lies in the radial corrugations 7 of the circular dial member 6, any one of which corrugations 7 are adapted to fit over the pocketing socket 11 as it forms a ridge on the out-' side of the pipe clamp 9. The corrugations 7 enable the operator to register the particular corrugation over the pocketing socket 11 formed on the outside of the clamp 9 so as to secure the ground connecter 4 in whatever relative position is desired with respect to the ground pipe 13 whereby the ground wire conduit may be brought down to the grounding water pipe in any desired direction and a perfect fastening readily made to said grounding pipe, insuring against accidental dislodgment particularly because of the interlocking features of the corrugations 7 and pocketing socket 11 which definitely fixes the relative directions of the conduit to the grounding pipe.
Many variations may be made in the particular construction of my device without departing from the spirit and intent of the same.
I claim:
1. An electric ground connecter comprising a water pipe clamping member carrying a wire pocketing socket on its inside face forming a ridge on the outside, a conduit connecter terminatlng ina radially corrugated dial portion adapted to engage said ridge in any desired position and means for securing said clamp and conduit connecter together.
2. An electric ground connecter comprising a water pipe clamping member carrying a wire pocketing socket on its inside face forming a ridge on the outside, a conduit connecterterminating in meansadapted to securely engage said ridge in any desired position relative to said water pipe.
3. In an electric ground connecter the combination of a ground pipe clamping membe a ridge projecting from said clamping men her, a conduit connecter terminating in a radially corrugated dial portion adapted to en gage said ridge in any desired position and means for securing said clamp and conduit connecter together.
4. In an electric ground connecter the combination of a ground pipe clamping means, Wire housing means projecting from said clamping means, a conduit connecter terminating in corrugated means adapted to engage said projectingmeans of said clamping means and means for securing said clamping means and conduit connecter together.
