My invention relates to a flashlight support and a bracket therefor. The flashlight support is preferably of the type disclosed by my U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,527,479 issued February 24, 1925. The bracket forming an important feature of the present invention is adapted to be installed at a convenient point within an automobile, such, for example, as on the frame above the wind- 0 shield, or over the rear window so that the support with the flashlight may be easily placed within or removed from said bracket. hen the support with the flashlight is removed from the bracket said flashlight may be used in the various positions set forth in the above-mentioned patent, and when the holder with the flashlight is placed in position in the bracket the flashlight may be used to illuminate the interior of the automobile.

In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the bracket with the flashlight support in position therein.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 2-2 of Fig.3.

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the complete device, the flashlight being shown in dotted lines.

Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the device with the flashlight removed.

Fig. 5 is a cross section on line 55 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the support and the flashlight removed from the bracket.

Referring in detail to the different parts, 2 designates the bracket which consists of a longitudinal body 4 provided at its longitudinal margins with inturned flanges 6 which coact with said body in forming a sheath for the reception of the flashlight support. The body 4 is provided at its ends with a pair of legs 8 which converge towards their lower ends as shown by Figs. 1 and 2 and terminate in outturned feet 10 adapted to be secured by screws 12 to any suitable support such as a portion of the frame A forming a part of the interior of the automobile body.

One of the flanges 6 is provided intermediate its ends with an upturned keeper 14 over forward end with a short fixed leg and" welded, or otherwise which the slotted free end 16 of a metallic strap 18 is adapted to pass and be secured in closed position by suitable means such as a padlock B, the hasp of which is adapted to pass through any of the holes 20 in said keepefi- M 14. The opposite end of the strap 18 is operably connected to a pintle 22 mounted in a pair of ears 24 turned upwardly from the flange 6 arranged opposite the other flange 6 having the keeper 14.

Referring now to the flashlight holder which is somewhat similar to the one disclosed in my patent hereinbefore referred to, 30 designates a base member provided at its an adjustable long leg 34, which latter is hingedly connected to the forward portion of the base member 30 as indicated at36.

The basemember 30 is provided inter mediate its ends with a pair of upwardly pressed seats 38 having a pair of spring clips 40 which'are adapted to yieldably hold the flashlight C. The clips 40 are'riveted, spotsuitably fixed upon the seats 38. V F I hen the fiashlightC is to be used outside of the automobile to provide light for any purpose such as when repairing, or changing a tire,-the flashlight G, together with the flashlight holder, is removed from the bracket' -SO 2 and may be placed upon the ground or elsewhere and held in an inclined position as shown on Fig. 6, by the leg 32. If it is desired to throw the light to a greater height the leg 34 is adjusted to active position by swinging its free end downwardly and forwardly until checked by the short leg 32.

Vvhen it is desired to place the flashlight support in position in the bracket 2, the long leg 34 is folded against the under side of thl i base member 30 with which it is slipped into the sheath formed by the body 4 and the flanges 6, until checked by the leg 32 contacting the leg 8 at the left on Fig. 1. The flashlight support is then secured from accidental displacement by means of the strap 18 which is swung downwardly over the flashlight O p and the keeper 14 and reliably secured by the padlock B. When the flashlight holder is slipped into the bracket 2 as above described the seats 88 pass between the flanges 6, the adjacent margins of which are spaced apart as shown by Figs. 3 to 5, inclusive, to permit the passage of said seats. By arranging the leg 8 at the left on Fig. 1 at approximately the same angle as the leg 32 the flashlight holder may be pushed backwardly into its sheath further than if said leg were Ver tical and hence the forward end of the flash light C will not project so far beyond the adjacent end of the bracket. From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have provided a device embody ing the advantages above pointed out, and

while I have shown one form of the invention I reserve all rights to such other forms and modifications thereof as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In combination, a flashlight holder having a base member and a rearwardly inclined leg fixed to the front end of said base member, and a bracket consisting of a body, means on said body to coact therewith in forming a sheath for the reception of the base member, and legs for said body which converge towards their lower ends and one of which is arranged in the path of the leg on the base member to check the latter when inserted in said sheath.

2. In combination, a flashlight holder having a base member provided with means for holding a flashlight, and a bracket consisting of a body, flanges folded over said body tocoact therewith in providing a sheath for the reception of the base member, a strap hinged- 1y connected to one of said flanges and adapted to firmly embrace the flashlight, and a keeper on the other flange provided with means for locking the free end of said strap.
