Description

F. FORES NOSTRIL INSERT Aug. 18, 1931.
Filed April 14, 1930 /Z /6 /4 firrzalzdaibrajm mgR VIA ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 18, 1931 UNITED STATES rnnnnnno Forms, on MANILA, PHILIPPINE isLnnns NOSTRIL Application filed April 14,
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in medical appliances primarily designed for application and use within the nostrils.
One of the principal objects of the invention resides in the provision and arrangement of a supporting structure for the appliances designed for engagement with appropriate portions of the nostrils in such manner that the wearer may inhale and exhale freely.
Another object of the invention consists of strainer elements positioned within the supporting structure to filter the air breathed by the wearer.
More specifically stated the strainer elements and supporting structure are so disposed as to prevent injury and to afford comfort to the wearer and yet preserve the natural shape of the nose.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 taken through a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates generally an annular form of band or rim shaped in conformity with the natural contour of nostril passages. As best shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, the rim 10 is downwardly and inwardly tapered to prevent displacement thereof and to prevent injury or discomfort to the wearers nose. A companionrim 11 threadedly engaged with the inner side wall of the rim 10 is provided with an inwardly projecting annular ledge 12, the purpose and advantage of which will be presently apparent.
INSERT 1930. "Serial No. 444,29
It is also my purpose to provide means for the filtering purification and straining of'the air breathed by the wearer whereby persons affected-with hay fever and laborers I employed in places where their line of work is about machinery and the like where the air. is filled with flying or floating particles, which if'breathed might prove detrimental to his health.
The strainers comprise one such as indig cated at 13, preferably formed of fine mesh wire or other reticulated material arranged in disk formation and seated eripherally' thereof upon the upper side of t 1e ledge 12. A layer of fine silk cloth, gauze or the like, such. as indicated at 14, is then disposed upon the upper surface of the filter or screen 13. A ring 15 is then disposed upon the upper surface of the filter 14: and the peripheral edges of the filter 13 are then bent inwardly over and about the upper exposed surface thereof in the manner shown in Figure 3 of the drawings to maintain the entire strainer or filter in position for use.
As noted in Figure 3, the rims 10 and 11 are provided with registering curved portions 16 upon diametrically opposite sides thereof and upon their uppermost peripheries to prevent injury to the nostrils and distortion of the natural shape of the nose. The invention may be constructed in such manner, however, so that the appearances of people having fiat noses will be materially. improved. v
In Figure 4: of the drawings I have shown a modified form of my invention, which conforms to a great extent to the preferred form save for the fact that the outer rim is made wider than the innerrim, as employed in the preferred form, is deleted. The latter form may be employed to a useful effect within the nostrils of persons having sensitive and irritated nasal channels as the single rim is more elastic and resilient than two rims and will compensate with the nostrils as same are flared and contracted during the natural breathing of the wearer.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is A nostril insert comprising an ovalshaped rim having portions removed upon diametrically opposite sides and inner periphery thereof to prevent distortion of the natural shape of the nostrils, an annular flange inwardly directed from the other peripheral edge, a filter having upper and lower layers disposed within the rim, a ring reposing upon the upper surface of the upper layer and forcing the lower layer against said flange, and the lower layer of the filter having the side edges thereof extending peripherally of the upper layer and ring and reposing against the upper surface of the latter.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FERNANDO FORES.
