' The objects of the invention are to provide in combination a handle and a styptic pencil carried in the handle so as to be immediately at hand and quickly andcertainly removable from the handle in. case of need;

to provide such a combination of said handle and the styptic pencil that the latter will normally be containedin said handle andprotected against moisture; to provide in such combination a plug for closing theopen end of the handle, said plug serving as a convenient mount and grip] for the styptic pencil, and to provide means preventing the rolling of the handle, all of said objects being, accomplished by the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter set forth, described and claimed.

Referring now in detail to the drawings, A and B represent the usual blade-clamping members, the member A being formed as usual with an externally screw threaded stem C received in the internally screw threaded bore D of the upper end of the handle 1 and being provided with the usual locking or positioning lugs E received in registering holes inthe blade, not. shown, and in the lower clamp member B.

The construction thus far described is very old andwell known, being found in the Gillette type of safety razor in practically universal use for a numberof' years.

The handle 1 is preferably cylindrical in form and is longitudinally centrally bored from its lower end to a point near the lower end of bore D to-form a long cylindrical large diameter chamber 8 to receive the styptic pencil 7', said chamber 8 and bore D being separated by the im 'erforate wall 2.

The lower end portion -0 the inner face of the wall of chamber 8 is formed with screw threads 3 to cooperate with the external screw threads 5 of the ferrule or socket 5 of the lower end plug 4.

Said ferrule or socket 5 is preferably of resilient material, cylindrical in cross section and is slotted or split, as at 6, so as to allow the portions thereof to yield slightly as the end of the styptic pencil 7 is forced into position between them and serving to grip and hold between them said styptic pencil 7 after it has been thus forced into said socket. The exact construe ion of the sock-1 et 5 is not of vital importance, it being merely important that there shall be some means of securing the plug .4 and the styptic pencil 7 together so as to be withdrawn and inserted as one operative part, nor is it important that there shall be screw thread connection between the plug 4 and the hagldle 1, it sufi'icing it there be some suitable provision for holding the-plug 4 in the handle 1.

That portion of the plug 4 which normally extends below the handle 1 will be angular in cross section and appreciably larger in cross section than the handle 1, as well illustrated in Fig. 2, to efi'ectually prevent the rolling of the handle l.when separated from the clamp members A and B. The handle: 1, plug 4 and its socket or ferrule 5 may all be of'any suitable metal, preferably such as will not be .corroded by,

or set up a chemical reaction with, the styptic pencil or chemical elements thereof, or may be of hard rubber, bakelite or any suitable metal, metal-alloy, or any composition suitable to the purpose, and if a composition such as hard rubber or bakelite is used internally screw threaded metal ferrules may be anchored in the bore D to engage the external screw threadof the stem C; and likewise, if desired, a similar internally screw threaded metal ferrule may be anchored in the lower part of the handle 1 to similarly receive the external screw thread of v what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r A safety razor handle having an internally screw threaded bore in its upper end, a large bore forming a chamber extending from its lower end to a point adjacent said upper bore, and the lower portion of said handle being internally screwthreaded in said chamber, in combination with a plug having a portion normally extending beyond the lower end of saidhandle and angular in cross section and appreciably larger in cross section than all portions of said handle, formed with an externally screw threaded portion immediately next above said angular portion to engage in the threads in the lower portion of said handle to close the said chamber and maintain said plug in normal position in said handle, and provided, with a resilient split annularly extending ferrule, and a styptic pencil having its lower end forced into, and gripped by, said ferrule to be insertable and withdrawable with said plug as a single operative part in and from said handle wherein it is normally received in said chamber.
