My invention relates to automobile jacks, and it is an object ot' the invention to provide 'a device of. this character which is simple, inexpensive and durable in construction, and which may be easily and quickly operated to perform the operation of jacking up and letting down the wheel of an automobile or other vehicle without effort on the part of the operator; all as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings, my invention comprises a base B, an eccentric or cam C, an elevator or elevating member E, and an operating lever or handle H.
The base B consists of a rectangular angle iron frame having an upstanding flange 10 at each side and at its front end, the rear end of the frame being open to ermit the cam C to lie in a substantially iiorizontal osition or in the plane of the frame B. gaid frame is also provided with a horizontal flange 11 of uniform width which extends around the side and ends of the same and forms a rectangular opening which is of slightly greater Width than the curved portion of the cam or eccentric C, in order to permit the cam to overlap the base when said cam is in upright position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or is collapsed in a forward position, not shown.
The eccentric or cam C is formed of a pair of parallel spaced rods 12 and 13, the lower rod 13 of which has its ends secured in the upstanding flanges 10 of the base B and forms a pivotal support for the side posts 14 which connect said spaced rods.

Also in order to maintain the side posts spaced inwardlyv from the upright flanges 10 of the base a pair of washers or spacing elements 15 are mounted on the lower rod 13, one at each end of the same between the side posts and the adjacent upstanding flanges of the base. The structure just described formsa rectangularl frame or support for a curved plate 16 which has its ends attached to the rods 12 and 13, such curved plate being of a suliicient thickness to prevent its bending or yielding in use, but on the other hand presenting a rigid operating surface. By providing av curvedl platethe advantages of a curved cam sur-v face are obtained while the needless weight the base when the side edges 4 occasioned by a solid body is avoided. f
The elevator or pivoted elevating' 'member or incline E is formed of a hollow rectan u`- lar frame having depending sides 17 whleh serve to strengthen the same and `is open: at its rear end, while its forward end is provided with a thickened body portion 18 provided with a passage for the reception of a pivoted bolt 19 upon which the member is fulcrumed. The pivot bolt 19 is mounted in perpendicular relation to the sides of the base, so that the depending ilanges 17 may come withinl the upstanding side members of the base and be housed within the same and with the side posts of the cam housed Within the side members of the elevator E. The elevating member is a substantially rectangular body having one end pivoted in a horizontal position and the other end being adapted to be elevated to dispose the body in an inclined position or to be lowered to nove the same from an inclined to a substantially horizontal position. On the upper surface of the elevator E are disposed a pair of spaced projections or wedge blocks or checks 20 and 21 which form a depression between the same for the reception of an automobile wheel.y The lower wedge or chock 20 is adapted to prevent the wheel the jack.
The handle or lever H 1s provided with a socket 22 in its lower end, which is Vof a form to receive the upper end of either of the side posts 14, such socket being provided with a slot 23 for the accommodation of the cross rod 12, the handle or lever being merely to facilitate the operation of the cam.
In order to hold the cam C in u right position and prevent it from being t rown outwardly a rod 25 is pivotally secured to the base B and adapted to engage the side post 14 as'clearly shown in Figure 1.
The operation of my device is quite simple, and will apparently be understood from the above description. When it is desired to elevate a wheel for any reason, the jack is placed in the path of movement of the wheel and the car operated to cause the wheel to roll up on the elevator E to a position between the chocks 20 and 21, whereupon a prop or support 24 is placed under the axle of the vehicle or in other convenient supporting position, and the operation of the cam C by means of the handle I-I to withdraw the cam from beneath the elevator will permit the car to lower gracefully until the same rests on the stilt or prop 24 whereupon the jack can be removed or taken out of the way for removing and replacing a wheel or tire.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes ma be made in my device without departing rom the spirit o the invention, and I, therefore, do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described in the specification, but only as set forth in the appended claims.
Having lthus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An automobile jack comprising a base, an elongated elevator pivoted at one end and adapted to fold within said base, a reetangular frame pivoted at the opposite end of said ,base and a curved plate mounted on said frame adapted to support said elevator In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Jennings, Louisiana, this seventh (7th) day of February, A.
