Integral with the yoke 42 is a segment 43 meshing with the teeth of a segmental gear is fastened to a shaft L5 projecting from the frame 37. Also fast on this shaft is an arm 46 pivoted to a link 47, which at its lower end has a. notch 48 cooperating with a pin 49 carried by a lever 50 secured to a shaft 51. The yoke 42 will, therefore, be rocked counter-clockwise a suthcient distance for the driving pawl 40 tomove the. units ratchet wheel 38 one step. As the lever returns to its normal position, the link 47 will be raised and the driving pawl will be returned to the position shown in Fig. 1.

The ineans for latching the key 111 in depressed position for a single operation only will now be described. The shank 112 has a shoulder 117 which norm-ally lies justabovea flattened pin .118 carried by a bellcrank lever 119 pivoted 'on the machine frame. The pin 11.8 is normally held incontact with the lower inclined edge 121 of the shoulder 117 by a spring 120 extending between one arm of the bell crank 119 and the pin 1116. When the key 111 is depressed, the inclined :edge 121 of the shoulder 117 will force the pin 118 outwardly until the shoulder 117 passes below the pin, whereupon the spring .120 will rock the bell crank .119 clockwise and move the pin .into position above the shoulder 117, thereby holding the key 111 depressed. As described in connection with thefirst form of the invention shown herein, there is a. shaft 96 which receives a counter-clockwise and then a clockwise movement near the end of every operationof the machine. Fastened to this shaft is an arm 122 which carries a pin 123 cooperating with an inclined surface 124 of the bell crank 119. It is apparent from Fig. 1 that when the shaft 96 is given its counter-clockwise movement near the end of the operation, the pin 123 will cause the bell crank 119 to rock counter-clockwise, due to-the engagement of this pin with the inclined surface 121, a suflicient distance to remove the pin 118 from above the shoulder 117 of the shank 112. The key 111 is then free to return to its normal undepressed position under the influence of the spring 115.
The following described aneans are provided for latching the keyinitsdepressed po sition during a plurality of 0 81Lt1OIlS, or until manually released. The s ank 112 has an opening 125 formed therein through which projects a stud 126 carried by the machine frame. This stud has a flattened side 127 on its under side. A shoulder .128 is formed in the wall of the opening .125 in such a position that if the key 111-is depressed and then moved sidewise with the shaft as a pivot, the shoulder will move beneath the flattened side 127 of the stud 1 26 and hold the key in its depressed position. It is evident that this position will be retained by the key until it is moved manually far enough to disengage the shoulder fromthefiattened side 12?, whereupon the sprin 115 will .raise the the key to its normal, undepressed ,position, upon a subsequent operation of the machine during which the arm 122, through stud 123, rocks the bell-crank 119.,to release the key.
While the form of mechanism hereinshown and described is admirably'adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form or embodiment herein disclosed, for it is susceptible of cmbodimentin various forms all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
1. In a machine of the class described having a consecutive counter and actuating means therefor, the combination of a depressible and rotatable key for disablin said actuating means, a latch for holding saic key depressed, means operable during the operation of the machine to trip said latch to release said key, and a tripping means carried by said key and adapted when said key is rotated previous to an operation of the machine, to trip said latch and release said key.
2. In a machine of the class described having a consecutive number mechanism and means to actuate the same; the combination of means to disable the actuating means, including a key having a normal position and at least one adjusted position; means to latch the key in its adjusted position"; and means operable by the key when manipulated in its adjusted position, to trip the latch and release the key.

4. In a machine of the class described :having a consecutive number mechanism and mewnsto actuate the same; the combination of means todisable the actuating means, including a depressiblc key adapted for longitudinal movement toward and from its normal position, "and for rotary movement in either direction in its depressed position; and yielding means to prevent accidental rotary movement in either direction.

In a machine of the class described having a consecutive number mechanism and means to actuate the same; the combination of means to disable the actuating means, inluding a depressible wey adapted for longitudinal movement toward and from its normal position, and for rotary movement in its depressed position; means to latch the key when shifted longitudinally to its effective position; and means operated by the key, when rotated to trip the latch.
