Patented Sept. 5,1876.

INVENTOR. ATTORNEY.

UNITED STATES PATENT O'EEIoE.
JACOB BEARD, OF NEW BOSTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAFT-EQUALIZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 18L765, dated September 5, 1876; application filed November 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB BEARD, of New Boston, in the county of Mercer and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Equalizing the Draft ofThree Horses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The same letters and figures of reference are used to indicate the corresponding parts.
After describing the invention, its nature and extent will be shown in the claims.
The object of my invention is to furnish a three-horse equalizer for the use of plows, and for all places where three horses can be used for draft purposes. It may also be adapted, by a slight variation entirely within the skill of an ordinary mechanic, for use with a pole to wagons, and the like.
A is the clevis, to be attached to the plow.
A B is the frame in which the trees 0 and D operate, being fastened by a pin at a and a. d, d (Z and d show the loops at the extremities of the trees, to which the tugs are fastened.
E and E show the castings by which the two pieces composing the frame B are held together. by the stops :0 and y of these castings. The clevis A has an enlarged head, as shown at 0, by which it is held in the slot of the casting b.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a three-horse equalizer, the Whittletree '0 and the whiffletree D, pivoted in the frame B at unequal distances from their extremities, so that there may be equal distances between the loops at d and d d and d 01 andd*, as shown and specified.
2. The frame B, composed of two equal pieces, and held together by the castings E and E, in combination with the clevis A, the casting b, provided with a slotted lug, and the whiffletrees O and D, as heretofore described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of November, 1875.
JACOB BEARD.
