In dyeing machines as at present constructed each propeller shaft projects through the head of the machine and the upper ends of these shafts are equipped With gears, one of which is driven directly from a suitable drive and the other of which is driven from the first gear. It is obviously impossible in employing'` such a construction to vconnect a plurality. of machines in series as the strain ofv all succeedingpropeller drives is imposed uponeach of the drives and the first drive of a seriesjwould have to stand such immense strains that it would rapidly deteriorate if ityvvere at any time operative. Furthermore, a construction of this character necessitates the provision of a number of short shafts which are difficult to mount and to maintain in repair and dismantling' of any machine Would result in a shutting down of the succeeding machines andthe consequent loss of output. In `addition to the foregoing there is a considerable monetary loss involved in the propeller shaft arrangement now provided in that the substances in which the propeller shafts operate cause the same to deteriorate` rapidly and necessitate frequent replacements.
Accordingly, an important object of this invention is the provision of a structure permitting simultaneous drive of the propeller shafts of a number of machines from a single source of power Which is so constructed that repairs can be made to one of the machines y Without interrupting the operation of the remaining machines and which will permit of .the sectionalremoval of the propeller shaftsvso that onlythat portion of the propeller shaft which has deteriorated need be discarded.
A further object of the invention is toprovide a construction of this character in which the gearing employed can be conveniently housed and operated in lubricant, thus permitting the economical use of high grade bearings forthe operating shaft and propeller shafts.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the acompanying drawings Wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein:

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates a cover or base plate having arising therefrom adjacent one end thereof a stand` ard 11 for a motor 12.V The cover is provided with spaced openings 13 for the passage of propeller shafts 14 and mounted upon the base 10 over each opening is a casting 15 including a base Wall 16 carrying packings 17 for the propeller shaft.
