Each piston rod 21 includes a head 48 carrying wrist pin 49 and a multiple link- 50 is united to the piston rod thereby. The other end of the link 50 is pivoted to a triangular plate 51 at 52 by pin 53. The pivot pins 53 are positioned at two of the vertices of the triangular casting 51. The. other vertex of the triangular casting 51 includes a bearing 54 which receives the crank or eccentric portion 33 of the crank shaft having the hearing portions 34. A pair of links 55 are pivotally supported at one end by pin 56 in the end 32 of the offset portion 31 of the brackets. The other end of the link 55 is pivotally connected at 57 to the triangular casting 51 by the pivot 58 which is substantially midway between the pivotal bearings 52 and in alignment with the crank shaft bearing 54.
The operation of the device is as follows:
- Rotation of the main power shaft 24 together with the gear rotates crank shaft 33 which actuates the triangular. plate 51 and gives it a rockingmotion. When the crank portion is in the lowermost position it is as shown in Fig. 5., If the crank shaft rotates counter-clockwise, the quarter position therefrom is as shown in Fig. 6. t Then the next .quarter position is as shown in Fig. 5 ex-' cept that the crank portion 33 is positioned above the bearing portion 30 an equal amount and, therefore, the piston rods are positioned above an equal amount, the link 55 in this movement swinging thru-an arc and taking "a position substantially as indicated by the dotted line X. Continued rotation of the crank shaft will reverse the position of the triangular plate 51 from that shown in Fig.
6 to an oppositely tilted position and in this movement the end 52 of the plate 51 passes between the links 55 until positioned in approximately the same plane as the lowermost end 52 but on the opposite side.
The inventionclaimed is:
In a pump mechanism, a pair of vertically disposed piston rods mounted for parallel reciprocating movement, a pair of links each pivoted at one end to a piston rod, a crank shaft disposed midway between said rods, a
triangular actuator pivotally connected at 1tsupper verteX to said crank shaft, the lower vertlces of said actuator being in true vertical alinement with saidrods When the upper vertex is disposed midway between the said lower vertices and at its opposite end to a stationary support laterally beyond one of said links, and means for rotating said crank shaft.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
' STUART DEAN.
