My invention relates to improvements in diapers for infants and has for its ob ect the provision of a diaper which is absorbent, soft, comfortable, antiseptic, non-irritant and washable.

My improved diaper in one embodiment of my invention will take the form of two layers of fabric disposed in superimposed relation, the layers, however, being interwoven around on all four sides or edges of the diaper to produce adiaper of double thickness throughout its major portion with a border of single thickness.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates the diaper which for the purpose of illustration only I have shown comprising 0 an upper web or layer 2 and a lower web or layer 3 of fabric such as soft, absorbent, antiseptic cotton disposed in superimposed relation. These webs are interwoven at their ends 4 and 5 and sides 6 and 7 so as to form or provide a border of single thickness along all four sides or edges of the garment. is provides, therefore. a diaper the major or body portion of which is of a plurality of thicknesses having a border composed of less number of thicknesses.

In order that relative movement of the two superimposed webs of the fabric may be eliminated or reduced to a minimum, I also interweave the layers 2 and 3 intermediate the .borders as shown at 8 and 9. The intermediate interweave extends transversely of the material and in weaving the garment the warp thread 10 of the web 3 is picked up by the weft or filler threads 11 of the web 2 whereby the warp thread 10 becomes common to both webs 2 and 3 as illustrated in Fig. 2. It will be understood, however, that good results can be obtained by stitching the several superimposed layers of fabric together.

While I have illustrated and described but one warp thread picked up by the weft thread, it is to be understood that if desired a plurality of warp threads may be picked up at these points.

In practice I prefer to make my improved diaper oblong in shape so as to increase the thickness of the garment when the same is folded and applied to the body.

While I have illustrated and described a preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that various modifications may be made in the structure or in the method of making the same without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

What I claim is:

1. A diaper of double thickness with a border of single thickness completely surrounding the diaper.

2. A diaper comprising a plurality of thicknesses of fabric and a border completely surrounding the diaper of less number of thicknesses.

3. A diaper comprising superimposed webs or layers of fabric interwoven along the sides and ends to provide a border of single thickness completely surrounding the diaper.

4. A diaper comprising superimposed webs or layers of fabric interwoven alpng the sides and ends to provide a border of single thickness, the body portions of said webs intermediate the inner edges of the border being interwoven to provide an intermediate point of attachment of the body portion.

5. A diaper comprising superimposedwebs or layers of fabric constituting the body portion of the diaper, said fabric being interwoven along the sides and ends toprovide a border of less thickness than the body portion.

6. A diaper comprising superimposed webs or layers of fabric constituting the body of the diaper said fabric being interwoven along the sides and ends thereof to provide a border of less thickness, said webs united intermediate said border.
