Description

July 7, 1931. E. REYNOLDS SELF ADJUSTABLE TOWEL BAR BRACKET Filed Oct. 21, 1930 ZZ///// 2 W0 Patented July 7, 1931 UNETEE Sifia'iE Parser series EDWIN REYNOLDS, OF VINELAND, NEW JERSEY SELF ADJUSTABLE TGVTEL BAR BRACKET Application filed October 21, 1930. Serial No. 480,216.,
The present invention has reference to improvements in supporting towel bar brackets and the like, and relates more particularly to a novel construction and arrangement of 6 the bracket and its towel bar holding supporting heads.
An object of my invention is the provision of a towel bar bracket with a plurality of towel bar holding heads and supporting arms, one of said heads being non-adjustable with its supporting arms, and the other which is self adjustable with its supporting arms which would support substantialiy an indefinite number of various sizes of towel bars of different diameters up to the full diameter of the non-adjustable stationary towel bar holding head, thereby making it on necessary to have a separate size bracket read for each size of towel bars.
A further object of my invention is to provide a towel bar bracket with a non-adjustable bar holding head, and an adjustable bar size holding head which would keep the towel bar end knob spaced from the stationary non-adjustable towel bar holding head and lie intervened between the towel bar end knob and the stationary non-adjustable bracket towel bar holding head and prevent any part of the towel bar knob from entering the non-adjustable bar holding head regardless of the size of said knob.
A. still further object of my invention is the provision of such a combination two headed towel bar holding bracket without 5 using any more material than is now used in the conventional type of bracket now in use, thereby providing a substantial, prac-' tical, simple and efficient combination towel bar bracket with two heads one of which is self adjustable and the other which is nonadjustable, which would be cheap to manufacture from a single piece of resilient sheet metal, thereby simplifying the construction and reducing the cost of production.
\Vith these objects in view my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and cooperation of the parts as will now be described in detail in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which .Fig. 1 is a plan view of my new self adjustable towel bar bracket with non-adjust able and self adjustable towel bar size heads as it appears stamped out in the flat and be.- fore being bent and formed into shape.
Fig. 2 is a View of Fig. l, in a more advanced stage of shaping; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my new self adjustable towel bar bracket as it appears finished and ready for use to mount to asup port.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of my new self adjustable towel bar bracket with a section ofa towelbar within the towel bar holding heads and as it appears supported between the self adjustable towel bar size holding head showing the adjustable head frictionally engaged with the small size towel bar, and the bar suspended in space passing through the rigid non-adjustable towel bar holding head.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and what is now believed to be its preferred form in Fig. 1, is a single strip of resilient sheet metal 4, having at 5, 5, apertures for screws or nails near each of its ends, spaced 0n the said strip of sheet metal ,4, and preferably at its transverse center at 6, the said strip of metal 4, has a predetermined size slot 7, formed therein extending equidistant from its mid center 6, and toso wards its apertured ends 5, 5, and transversal to its longitudinal center of the said strip 4, of Fig. l, the said strip 4, is then slotted at its longitudinal center at 8, 8, in opposite directions from the said predetermined slot 7, and equidistant therefrom forming a c0ntinuous T shaped slot, and the said T shaped slot dividing of and spacing from the body section 10, 0f the metal strip 4, two elongated rectangular body members 9, 9, eaclrhaving a free end 11, 11, disposed towards each other and spaced from each other by the T shaped slots 7, and
8, 8, and the said members 9, 9, being integral at their opposite ends with the body 4, at 12, 12, of Fig.1, the said strip of metal 4, is then folded and bent upon itself at its mid transverse center to form a towel bar supporting bracket with two towel bar holding heads 13, and '14,, of Fig. 3, one of said heads 13,
i one being an integral annular circular like head with rigid parallel arms at right angles to itself 15, 15, which are integral with the rela tive wider fastening, plate supporting arms 17, 17, and the head 13 being a one piece and of a larger diameter than the second adjustable head 14, as shown in Fig. 3, the adjustable towel bar holding head 14, is of a smaller diameter than the nonadjustable head 13, when formed at the time of manufacture, the rectangular body members 9, 9, of Fig. 1, are formed into a circular head 14, with parallel arms at right angles to the head 13, and the adjustable head would be transversely divided at its front mid center at 20, as shown in Fig. 3, the adjustable towel bar holding head 14, would be integral with its supporting arms 16, 16, and the said arms 16, 16, would be integral with the relative wider fastening plate arms 17 17 and each pair of arms 15, 15, and 16, 16, are exactly alike in extent and direction and parallel with each other, and one of said pair of supporting arms 15, 15, would be rigid with the fastening plate arms 17, 17, and the other pair of arms 16, 16, would be resilient and movable, adjustable with its bar holding head 14, as shown in Fig. 2, and 3, it will be apparent that when the blank 4 of Fig. 1, is cut and formed as shown and bent and formed into shape into a supporting towel bar bracket with towel bar holding heads as shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 3, the bracket would have its towel bar holding head and its supporting arms divided longitudinally at its center at 19, Fig. 2, by means of the slots 8, 8, of Fig. 1, and a double annular two headed towel bar holding bracket would be provided each having a pair of suppor ing arms 15, 15, 16, 16, and the said heads and arms would be spaced apart laterally, horizontally by the slots 8, 8, side by side as shown in Fig. 2, at 13, 14, separate from each other and adapted to act independent of each other, and it will be further apparent that when the adjustable towel bar holding head 14, is divided at its transverse center at 20, Fig. 3, the said head 14, would have a divided head with upper and lower sections 21,-
21, integral with their supporting arms 16, 16, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, it will now be apparent that a towel bar bracket has been provided with two annular towel bar heads 13, and 14, one of which is stationary and piece 13 rigid with its supporting arms 15, 15, and the other head 14, adjustable for frictionally engaging and holding towel bars of various diameters to the full capacity of the stationary bar holding head 13, of Figs 2 and 3. It will now be apparent that when a towel bar 22, of Fig, 4, is inserted between the supporting arms 17, 17, and brought forward within the towelbar holding heads 13, 14, of the bracket as shown in Fig. 4, thes aid adjustable, movable upper and lower half 21, 21, of. the towel bar holding head 14, would be forced apart at their transverse divided center 20, of Fig. 3, and by means of the resiliency of the adjustable head 14, supporting arms 16, 16, there would be resisting force exerted by the said arms to the upper and lower half 21, 21, of'the adjustable head 14, of Fig. 3, causing the adjustable head 14, to frictionally, and sub stantially engage the said towel bar 22, and to hold the said bar 22, suspended in space within the rigid stationary towel bar holding head 13 as shown in Fig. 4, and it will be clear that the said adjustable head 14, will hold any size towel bar up to the full diameter of the said stationary towel bar holding head 13 of Figs. 3 and 4. It will be further apparent that when the towel bar brackets are mounted to a support by means of its fastening plates 18, 18, with screws Fig. 3, with the adjustable bar holding head 14, positioned next to the towel bar knob 23 of Fig.4, the said adjustable head 14, would lie intervened between the towel bar knob 23 of the towel bar 22, and the stationary towel bar holding head 13, of larger diameter, and keep the said towel bar knob 23, spaced from the head 13, and prevent a towel bar knob of small diameter from making contact or entering the said stationary towel bar holding head 13, when mounted therein, as shown in Fig. 4, it will be clear that when the brackets are so manufactured they would be reversible and could be used for a right side or left side towel bar bracket and keep the towel bar knob spaced from the stationary towel bar head 13 and from entering the same.
It will now be apparent that a substantial,
practical, simple and efficient adjustable towel bar bracket with non-adjustable and self adjustable towel bar size holding heads have been provided and formed from a single piece of resilient sheet metal, which will be cheap to manufacture.
Although I have shown by way of example in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, the preferred form of my invention, I want it particularly understood that I do not limit myself to this exact shape bracket, but reserve unto myself the right to vary the shape within certain limits of what is disclosed and what is claimed with out departing from the spirit of my invention.
