UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
G. FRANZ HEINIGHEN, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
I IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-FOUNTAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,167, dated August 15, 1876; application filed May 20, 1876.
a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
' Figure 1 of the drawings'is a representation of a side view of my soda-fountain, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a: w, and Fig. 4. is a vertical section view through 3 y.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a portable mineral-water fountain for family use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the outside cylinder or fountain, to be made of copper and lined with tin, and resting upon a suitable base or foundation, B. In the center of the cylinder A, extending from the top downward for a suitable distance, is the icereservoir 0, provided with the lid or cover D. On the bottom of the reservoir 0 is a false perforated bottom, E, on which the ice rests, and from the bottom of the reservoir extends the pipe G, out through the base B, and provided with stop-cock or faucet H, for drawing off ice-water. The annular space between the ice-reservoir and cylinder is for soda or other mineral waters, and is charged and filled through a pipe, I, extending from the top downward nearly to the bottom, as shown. The pipe I is, at its upper end, provided with a flanged funnel, a, which rests on a short A pipe or nozzle,.b, in the top of the cylinder, and over the same is screwed a stop-cock, J. Near the bottom of the cylinder is inserted in like manner a siphon, K, with stop-cock L, for drawing off the mineral-water. In one side of the fountain A is a glass gage, P, for showing the state of the water therein.
This combined water-cooler and mineralwater fountain can be made of any size desired for family use, or for use in stores, if desired, and is simple, cheap, and durable, and not liable to get out of order.
What Ielaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a soda-fountain, the combination of a filling-pipe, I, having at its upper end a flanged funnel, a, resting on pipe I), and a stop-cock,
J, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the fountain A with gage P, central ice-chamber O, with outletpipe and stop-cock G H, the charging and filling pipe I, with stop-cock J, and. the siphon K, with stop-cock L, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
G. FRANZ HE'INIOHEN.
