Be it known that we, C. PYLE WIGGINs, A. (H. NORD'YKE, and BENJAMIN STRAw- BRIDGE, all of the city of Richmond, in the prevents retraction of the paper.

making a part of this specication, in which-Y Figure 1, is a perspective view of our invention. Fig.'2 shows the contrivance which A, A, A, constitute a rectangular framework, as shown, permanently framed together in a suitable manner, and upon which is secured the metallic frame B, B, B; in

The folding may be multiplied to any required number of times without any addition of machinery save an additional numy ber of blades, pulleys and drums, the drums 40' being placed upon the same shafts with those already shown.

P is a lever with its center of motion upon bracket, p. One end of this lever is in contact with aw, N, the other presents an inclined surface across the path of blade- D. Bracket, p, is placed dia onally upon bars b 5; its shape is su 'ciently indicated in the ligure. As blade D enters the sort of throat in which the paper is folded it cornes in contact with lever P, pressing it outward thereby causing, N, to clamp the paper against O, and prevent its retraction.
Operation: Continuous rotation should be communicated to wheel L by means of the handle M. This causes an alternate action of the blades C, D. As already shown, when the blade C, has arisen from the slot, Z9, and is at rest awaiting the action of blade D. A sheet to be folded, is laid properly upon the plate B. Blade C, now descends upon the paper forcing it into the throat formed by uprights, b, and folding it evenely and smoothly its entire length. Blade, C, is now retracted, and while blade D is performing its work. Another sheet is laid upon plate B, blade C, again descends. And thus on continuously till the desired number is folded.
This machine is by no means complex in construction is not liable to wear or fracture, is easily adjusted to any requisite size of paper, and performs its work well. It
may be connected to a cylinder press and receive the papers directly from the y thus "ing an alternate movement of blades, C, D,
as set forth.
