HAND OPERATED BUNDLE TRIP FOR BINDERS Filed Nov. 5 192 Patented May 26, 1931 UNITED STATES WILLIAM JAMES REX, OF HOLLAND, MANITOBA, CANADA HAND OPERATED BUNDLE TRIP .EOR IBINDERS Application filed November This present invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hand operated bundle trip for a binder and has for its primary object the provision of a meanswhereby the weight trip may be readily operated by hand, to release a bundle or bundles when the bundle resting against the weight trip is not of suflicient weight to cause automatic operation of the trip or when it is desired to effect a premature operation of the Weight trip.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of means within ready reach of the operator of. the binder, for operating by hand the weight trip which, under normal conditions is automatically operated by.
bundles of normal weight and size.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of hand operated means of the character stated which extends beneath the binder deck and connects with the weight trip for actuating the same when'the hand operated device is actuated, thus starting opera-' tion of the knotter mechanism and resulting in tying of the bundles and releasing of the same at the time desired, even though the weight trip is not operated automatically.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of hand operated means for actuating the weight trip, which is composed of the minimum number of parts of simple and inexpensive construction andv which may be readily incorporated in a binder structure without material or expensive,
alteration on the construction thereof.
To the accomplishmentof these and related objects, as shall become apparent as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as shall be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
The invention will be best understood and can be more clearly described, when'reference is had to the drawings forming a part of this disclosure wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, it is to be noted that the hand operated device includes a flexible member 6, which is extended beneath the binder deck 7 and around guide pulleys 8, with one end of the flexible member 6 brought up and attached to the weight trip 9, the operation of which results inithe release and operation of the tying and knotting mechanism. The other end of the operatorsseat'and has a ring 11, hand grip or the like attached thereto, whereby "the operator may readily grasp and operate the flexible member 6 and thus cause forced operation or actuation of theweight trip'9. As the construction of the device has thus been'described in detail, brief reference is now 'had 'to its use and modus operandi. Use of the hand operated mechanism is not required, however, when each and every bundle is of uniform weight and size and the weight trip 9 is thus caused to function properly as each bundle is presented thereto, unless it is desired to produce one or more bundles of lighter weight and size, under which conditions, the weight trip 9 may be actuated by the hand operated mechanism forming the subject matter of the present invention.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a hand operated bundle trip for a binder is provided that will fulfill all the necessary requirements of such a device, but as many changes could be made in the above description and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention constructed within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matters contained in the said accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limited sense.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hand operated mechanism for the weight trip of a binder including a flexible operating member connected thereto and extending beneath the binder deck; said flexible operating member terminating within reach of the binder operator.
2. A hand operated mechanism for the weight trip of a binder including a flexible operating member attached by one end to said weight trip and extended beneath the binder deck; guide means for said flexible operating member and means carried on the other end of said flexible operating member for engagement by the binder operator to operate said weight trip by hand.
3. A hand operated mechanism for the weight trip of a binder including a flexible operating member having a ring on one end for engagement by the bind-er operator to actuate said flexible operating member; and guide means for said flexible operating member beneath the binder deck; said flexible operating member being attached by its outer end to the weight trip to actuate the latter when the flexible member is operated by a pull on the said ring.
