Description

\ Mrbh 1931- J. NOWAKOWSKI HEAR'I'H RING STAND Filed Feb. 18, 1950 \NVENTOR JOSEF NOWRKOk SKI ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 31, 1931 UNITED STATE JOSEF NOWAKOWSKI, OF BERLIN, GERMANY HEARTH-RING STAND Application filed February 18, 1930, Serial No. 429,443, and in Germany July 21, 1928.
The subject of the present invention is a hearth ring stand, which has the important advantage that the rings may be simply and easily hung up or removed by a simple movement of the hand. It is also possible in the present stand to separate the ring required without any further action and remove it from the stand. Hearth ring stands are already known in which the rings are hung to a post provided with a number of hooks for receiving the rings. But these stands have the disadvantage that the rings have to be hung separately on various hooks whereby the individual rings have to be separated when taking them off according to their size. This defect however is completely overcome in the present invention, according to which the rings are simply pressed upwards against a traverse, which opens to receive them and holds them fast when it closes. If any ring is to be removed, it has merely to be lifted, when the traverse opens and releases the ring.
The invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Fig. 3 shows the traverse on a larger scale in front elevation.
Fig. at is a plan of Fig. 3.
The two upright posts 6 are secured to the base a of the stand. At the top of these posts a traverse cl is provided, which is divided in the middle. The two sections of this traverse overlap, the tongue of one fitting into the groove of the other. These sections are secured to arms or the like 0 and are rotatable about the pins 6. To prevent the two sections of the traverse from swinging downwards, bufiers f are provided, consisting of bolts or the like, against which the rear ends of the traverse strike. When a ring is to be hung on the stand, it is pressed against the traverse from below, so that the latter swings upwards and lets through the edge of the ring. The two sections then fall back to their original position, so that the traverse is shut and the ring held fast. If a ring is to be removed from the stand, therings not re quired are pushed over to the left as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, so that the ring to be removed is isolated and can be pushed upwards. The traverse then opens as described above and the ring slides easily out. The stay shuts again and retains the other rings. The forward edges of the parts of the traverse are preferably rounded or broken off, so that the rings may be pushed unhindered on to the sections of the traverse. The sections are so arranged that they rise towards the centre of the apparatus. Thus the movement necessary for opening the traverse is shortened, and the rings also slide automatically to right or left so that they do not have to be pushed back when further rings are being hung on the stand.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A hearth ring stand comprising a base member, two uprights supported by the base member, and a transverse member extending between said uprights and supported thereby, said transverse member including two overlapping sections, the overlapping portions having a tongue and groove relation and each of the sections being pivotally secured to one of said uprights.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my signature.
JOSEF NOWAKOWSKI.
