VENEER BOND Filed Aug. 25, 192e BY 77mm, +Mw!!! me Ea/m1140113 Patented Mar. 31, 1931 UNITED? si DANIEL B. DANInLsoN, or MILWAIIKEE, WISCONSIN vnNEERv BOND y Application led August 23, 1928. Serial No. 301,450.
This invention relates to improvements in veneer bond, for use in building construction.
It is the primary object of the present invention to provide in building constructions,
a means for forming an efficient bond between veneer walls of brick, stone, or terra cotta, and the inner walls.
A further object of the invention is to provide a veneer bond in which the veneer engaging portions are quickly attachable asv the veneer-wall progresses and are adjustable for irregular spacing and are adapted to be embedded and concealed in the mortar joints of the veneering medium.
A. further obj ect of the invention is to provide a veneer bond which may be installed very easily and quickly and which materially reduces construction costs.
A further object of the invention is to provide a veneer bond which is of very simple construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, is strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purpose described.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention consists of the improved veneer board, and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional view through a portion of a concreteinner wall with the form boards in place and several of the improved veneer bonds embedded in said inner wall;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front view of a concrete inner wall after the removal of the form boards showing a veneer bond cast in the wall;
Fig. 3 is'a vertical sectional view of a wall constructed in accordance with the invention showing the veneer bond forming an anchoring means between an inner concrete wall and an outer brick veneer wall;
Fig. f1 is a sectional view taken on line 4;-4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a Jfragmentary detail view of the 5 rear construction of a veneer engaging inem- `tween said thereabove.
ber showing its engagement with a vertical rod portion of the device. l
l Referring now more particularly to the drawing, it will appear that the numeral 8 indicates ya cast concrete wall in which the j concrete is poured between inner and outer form boards 9 and 10 respectively. 1n the construction of concrete walls in which the Improved veneer bond is'used, the inner faces of-the outer form boards 10 havey secured thereto vertically extending spaced-apart soht members grooves 12.
V11 provided. with vertical Each inner wall engaging member of the yveneer rbond consists of an'elongated'rod 13. s
crete while the rod portions areV received by L the -vertical grooves 12 of the sofit members 11. The result is that after the wall has set and the form boards and attached solitmem- 4bers are removed, the outer-surface of the wallwill be formed'v with vertical grooves 15, .H shown in Fig. 2, in which the vertical rod portions 13 are acc'essibly disposed.
The outer veneer wall is builtfupnin the lusual manner against the outer surface of the inner 'wall 8, said veneer wall being) formed of units 16 of brick, stone, terra cotta,
Vor other suitable material joined byinterposed layers of mortar 17.V 'At intervals, as
the veneer necessary to form a bond or anchor between j,
wall progresses vertically itv said veneer wall and the innerffwali.l For if that purpose split rings 1S are provided, said rings being formed of yieldable nieta-l and having overlapping 'loopedfree end lportioi'is s 19. When it is desired toattach one of said rings, the same is held in aplane with a ver A tical' rod portion l-andpushed into engage ment Awith the rod, with the sainepassingvbetween the ends 19, and then the ring is turned horizontally and the engagementis asshown in'Figs. 4 and 5. The ring "is thenvdisposed fiat on the uppernface of one of the units 1G and is embedded in themortar layer 17 belweit. and.; #he lelie. Heet: pla-@led It will thus be seen that with the improved veneer bond an effective and quickly arranged bonding or anchoring medium is effected between the inner Wall and the veneer Wall in building constructions. The off-set- .portions of the inner Wall engaging members rod portions 13. Furthermore, the improvedY veneer bond is of simple and n-ojvel construction, and is Well adapted for the purposes described. i
vWhat I claim as my invention is:
1.*In abu'ilding construction, an inner Wall having a verticalgroove in its outer face, an elongated vertical, non-flexible rod formed With'inte'gral olf-set portions, the olfset portions being secured' to said inner Wall, and the entire vertical: rod `portionbeing disposed Within said groovctandspaced slightly from surfaces of the Wall deiining said groove, an outer veneer Wall, and a bonding member anchored betwvjeen adjacent units of the veneer Wall and attached to saidvertical rod.
2. In a building construct-ion, an inner Wall having a vertical groove in its outer face, an elongated vertical,.nonlexible rod formed' With integral off-set portions, the offset portions being secured to said inner Wall, and the enti-re vertical rod portion being disposed Within said groovev andspaced slightly from the surfaces of the Wall defining said groove, an outer veneer Wall, mortar 'layers between adjacent horizontal"faces` of units of the veneer Wall, and a. plurality of vertically spaced bonding members embedded in said mortar layers `and attached toy spaced portions of said vertical rod'.
3. In a building construction, an inner Wall having a vertical groove in its outer face, an elongated vertical rod' formed with olf-set portions, the off-set portions being disposed Within said groove and' secured to said inner Wall, and the entire vertical rod portion being spaced slightly throughout its length from surfaces ofthe Wall dei-ningth'e groove, an'- outer veneer Walhanda bonding member anchored between adj acent units of the veneer Wall andv quickly attachably and vertically adjust-ably engaging saidjvertical rod Within the groove. .4. In v'a vbuilding constructifom an inner cast Wall having averticalgroove in its outer face, an elongated ve'rtical-rodfformed with ii-itegral oflset y portions, the' ol'l'set 'portions being embedded in said inner- Wall', airidtllie vertical rod portion' beingdispo'sed 'within said grooveV and spaced vthroughout its length fromY the surfaces of the V'Wall Ufo-ove,
an outer veneer Wall, mortar layers-@tween
