Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT QEEIoEo FREDERICK E. KLOPFLEISOH, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAIN-SCOURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 79,704, dated July 11, 1876; application Iiled February 21, 1576. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERroK E. KLOP- FLEISCH, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Grain-Scouring Machine, of which the following is a specification: l
The essential feature of my invention is the contrivance of a mill in which the grain is scoured between the periphery of a horizontal 'stone and the shell ot' a surrounding case or curb, so that the grain enters between the stone and the case at the bottom, and is worked upward in the process of scouring, and delivered through a spout which shifts up and down to vary the height, whereby it causes the grain to be scoured more or less, as may bedemanded by grains of different qualities or conditions.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved scouring-machine, taken on the line a: :v of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view, with apart in horizontal section, and Fig. 3 is partly a side elevation and partly a sectional elevation ofthe case.
Similar let-ters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the case or curb of perforated sheet metal, in which is a stone, B, having its periphery C suitably constructed and dressed with furrows or grooves for scouring the grain against the inside of the oase. D is the eye in the center of the stone, through which the grain feeds, the same as into a millstone, fall- `out being scoured at all..
ing on the bed-stone E, between which and the runner it is worked out to the periphery without being fully scoured, or it may be with- F is the spout in the curb for the escape of the grain after being scoured, said spout being applied in ways G, in which it can slide up and down freely to vary the height, so that the grain will be scoured more or less according to the height at which it is discharged.
The stone may be dressed in furrows or grooves of any approved shape and angle or construction, and the scouring-face may be armed with metal pieces H for increasing its efficiency.
I propose, in practice, to employ a driver, J, ot' three arms permanently fitted in the stone, for preventing the stone from tilting on the spindle by centrifugal action in case it is Ilot balanced right.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The scouring-stone B and case A, constructed and arranged to feed the grain into the space between them at the bottom, and having a vertically-sliding discharge-spout, F, for discharging it above the bottom and varying the height of the discharge, substantially as specified.
FREDERICK EDWARD KLOPFLEISCH.
