Description
March 10, 1931. c, NEUHAUSY 1,795,791
RESTAURANT BUILDING Filed June 10, 1929 Patented Mar. 1%, 1931 UNITED vs'rmr'ss PATENT o FICE FRIEDA c. NEUHAUS, or LOS ANGELES, onnrronmn RESTAURANT BUILDING Application filed June 10,
a torepresent cooks, waiters and other persons usually employed in the preparation and serving of food refreshments in restaurants and the like and which figures or images are mounted so that they traverse predetermined paths that lead into the main door of the building and through the room in which patrons are'served, thereby attracting the attention of passersby and affording interest and amusement to patrons of the caf or restaurant. I
Withthe foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a restaurant building constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Beferringby numerals to the accompanying drawings, 10 designates a base that may be formed of any suitable material, for instance, wood or combination of wood and metal covered with cement or staff, and rising from said base are four walls 11 arranged so as to provide a substantially rectangular room or chamber and the outer surfaces of these walls may be provided with doors, windows and the like that are shaped to simulate the doors and openings in an ordinary cookstove or range.
The front Wall of the building is provided with a relatively large centrally arranged doorway 12 that has the general shape of he oven door of a cookstove and arranged in theupper left hand corner of the front wall 11 is a window or opening 13 which cor v 1929. Serial N0. 369,540.
responds to the opening that is formed at the forward end of the fire box in a cookstove or range. 1
In order to attract attention and add interest in the building I prefer to arrange a section of glass in the opening 13 and to mount colored lights within the building behin d saidwindow to represent flames.
Further to give the effect of flames through i the opening 13 a series-of piecesof, red and yellowcolored fabric may be secured Within the building just below the opening'13 and by means of a blast of air directed upwardly thesesections of fabric may be caused to wave after the manner of ascending flames.
4 he. top 14 of the building may bepainted w or shaped to represent the ordinary stove. or
range top and surrounding the top and spaced a short distance therefrom, a rail 15,: similar to the rail that is positioned onarange or cookstove and which serves as a support for various cooking utensils and the like. v Projecting upwardly from oneend of the top 14 of the building is a tubular member 16 that is intended to represent a stove pipe or chimney. While the caf or restaurant is inzoperation steam may be permitted to discharge from the pipe ,or chimney 16, thus giving the appearanceof smoke 'andwhich adds to the .interestof the building., V Arranged on the base, within the building,
are tables 17 for the-accommodation of the patrons or guests and also arranged within the building, preferably at one end thereof,
are ranges or tables18 for the .accommoda- 1 tion of the employeesthat-prepare andfserve the food and refreshments- Formed in that portion of the base 10 that projects beyond the walls of the building are slots 19 and these slots eXtend throughthe base from the doorway 12 to therear portion-ofssaid base outside thechamber enclosed by the walls 11 and arranged immedi-v ately beneath these slots are endless chains 20 that pass around sprocket Wheels 21, which latter, are suitably supported to rotate in honzontal planes'just below the top of the base 10. Y Between the sprocket wheels 21 the chains 20 are supported by horizontally disposed rollers 22 that are mounted on shafts 23 beneath the base 10. (See Fig. 3).
While the cafe or restaurant is open for service motor 2a is operated, thereby driving chains 20 and the figures or images 27 connected thereto will more over the top of the base directly above the slots 19 and during such movement said figures or images will pass across the ends of the base, thence inwardly toward the door opening 12 and thence through said door opening and rear wardly through the chamber within the building and'which is occupied by the tables 17 and the moving figures will attract attention of passersby as well as creating interest and amusement for the patrons of the caf or restaurant.
As shown in Fig. l of the drawing, there may be arranged on top of the stove or range large objects formed of sheet metal or papier mach and which are shaped to represent various cooking utensils such as a roasting pan, a stewing pan, a coffee pot or the like.
Thus it will be seen thatI have provided a building that is especially designed for use.
as a cafe or restaurant, which building is shaped to represent acooking stove or range and said building includes moving figures or images that represent persons engaged in preparing and serving food and refreshments to the patrons of the restaurant.
Itwill be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved restaurant building may be made and substituted for those hereinshown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a restaurant building, a base provided with a door opening, the top of the base being provided with two separate endless slots, portions of which pass through the door opening and that portion of the base to the rear of said door opening, sprocket wheels journaled beneath the base adjacent to the slots therein, a sprocket chain mounted for operation on each set of sprocket wheels,
images mounted for movement on top of the base, connections between said images and the sprocket chains, a motor arranged on the base between the two sprocket chains and driving connections between said motor and two of the sprocket wheels.
2. In a restaurant building, a base provided with a door opening, the top of the base being provided with two separate endless slot-s, portions of which p ass through the door opening and that portion-of the base to the rear of said door opening, sprocket wheels journaled beneath the base adjacent to the slots therein, a sprocket chain mounted for operation on each set of sprocket wheels, images mounted for movement on top of the base, connections between said images and the sprocket chains, a motor arranged on the base'betwe n the two sprocket chains, driving connections between said motor and two of the sprocket wheels and rollingsupport s for said sprocket chains arranged within the base beneath the slots therein.
in testimony whereofI 'aflix my signature.
'FRIEDA o. NEUHAUS.
