The turning or drilling of the double cone socket is effected with another drilling-tool, which is ofthe same design, as the one previously described, with the only difference, that in place of thread cutters turning cutters of suitable type will be used. In contra-distinction to the modus operandi previously .described, the sleeve 16 need not be displaced from the right to the left by the guide-spindle 31, but the displacement may be effected in the direction from left to right by the guidespindle of the lathe which in this case will act as feed shaft. After the turning operation has been completed, the operator, by employing this modus operandi, is able to detach the turning device and to place the screwcutting device in position, without the necessity of loosening the lathe-chuck. t is therefore possible, without resetting the coupling, to provide the turned coupling with screwthreads by the use of the previously described screw-cutting device. In this way it is possible to turn out nicely finished couplings more economically than before by means of unskilled labor.
What I claim is: r
1. A device for use in turning or threading double conical couplings upon an ordinary lathe, comprising a shaft adapted to be held between the head and the tail stocks of the lathe, two reversely arranged cam members of conical shape situateo upon said shaft, cutting tools radially adjustable by said cam members, means for moving the cutting tools in an axial directionalong said cam members, and a hollow support having means of attachment to the lathe and adapted to support the coupling so as to be acted uponby the cut-1 ting tools.
2. A device for use in turning or thread ing double conical couplings upon an ordinary-lathe, comprising a shaft adapted to be held between the head stock and the tail stock of the lathe, a hollow chuck having means for attaching it to the lathe coaxially with the shaft for holding the coupling in position, two reversely arranged cam sleeves external- 1 ly of'conical shape situated upon said shaft and adjustable with relation to each other along the latter and having telescoping tongues, cutting tools radially adjustable by said tongues, and means for feeding the cutting tools in an axial direction and holding the cam sleeves from'independent rotation on the shaft, whereby said cutting tools successively operate upon the cone portions of the coupling.
3. A device for use in turning or threading double conical couplings upon an ordinary lathe, comprising a shaft adapted to be held between the head stock and the tail stock of the lathe, a sleeve attached to the face-plate of the lathe coaxially with said shaft, a chuck carried by said sleeve for holding the coupling, two relatively adjustable reversely arranged cam members externally of conical shape the taper of which corresponds to that of the completed socket and having telescopically engaging tongues, cutting tools resting on and radially adjusted by said tongues, an annular spring pressing said cutters against the tongues, and a sleeve carrying the cutters and attached to and movable with the slide carriage of the lathe.
