It enables a damaged reflector to be taken down and replaced with another which'may be of the same or a different size.
.a further object of this invention is to provide a lighting fixture consisting offew parts that may be easily and quickly assembled. The present device comprises only three separate parts or units with the exception of the fastening screws. The receptacle wiring terminals are placed on the back of the insulating members where they are readily accessible, thus making easy connection of the receptacle to the lead wires. Contrary to the usual practice in assembling' such devices the screws in the present device are inserted from the back of the hood rather than from inside the reflector, as is ordinarily the custom. A. 'still further advantage of the present device is that tapering channels are provided to guide the end of the fastening screws into the threaded receiving openings.
AV still further object of this inventionis to provide a lighting fixture in which all of the live wires and connections are protected by a weatherproof casing. The present device accomplishes this result by means of a flexible fibre washer which fits over the receptacle and tightly against the flanged portion of the hood.
A still further objectof this invention is to provide a lighting fixture having a` reflector with a reinforcing ring to strengthen the reflector at its point of ointure with the Cil receptacle, wherebyit is prevented from being bent out of shape. Y l,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the present device 'comprises a hood member l having a threaded opening in the back thereof into which a conduit 2 carrying the lead wires may be threaded, as shown in Fig. l, so that when the conduit 2 is fastened to the hood and is in a horizontal position the top side of the hood will extend out over the bottom side. The hood l has an outwardly extending flange 3. Recessed bosses l are formed in the back of the hood, as shown in Fig. 3, which bosses serve to keep the metal hood further from the live wires and contacts of the fixture, thereby minimizing any danger from short circuiting.
Within the hood l is positioned a receptacle 5 having an enlarged shoulder portion 6 and a reduced portion 7 which contains a screw lamp socket S having the usual side and center contacts. The shoulder portion of the receptacle 6 is formed with a flat bottom portion, as shown in Fig. 2, to facilitate the insertion of the receptacle into the hood.
The receptacle member 5 is provided with a lingered groove 9 in the back thereof, in the fingered portions of which the wiring terminals are placed.
A flexible ring 10, preferably of libre, having an outside diameter greater than the inside diameter of the flange portion of the hood is slipped down over the reduced portion 7 of the receptacle so as to lie against the front surface of the collar portions. Being of greater diameter than the hood member the outside part of the ring 10 will be forced into the flange portion 3 of the hood 1 and lie tightly against the sides thereof so as to form a weatherproof jointure.
Adapted to be used with the hood and the receptacle is a reflector 11 having a neck portion 12, the end of which is bent inwardly to form a flange portion 13, the opening of the flange por ion being slightly larger than the reduced portion of the receptacle so that the reflector may be slid over this reduced portion. 'Ihe flange 13 of the neck 12 is inserted over the reduced portion 7 of the receptacle and placed against the outside surface of the Hexible washer. A metal ring 14 having protruding portions 15 with threaded openings therein is inserted over the reduced portion 7 so as to lie adjacent the outside surface of the flange 13. Screws 16 are then inserted from the back of the hood member through registering openings in the collar portion of the receptacle, the flexible Washer and the flange portion of the reflector and then threaded into the threaded openings in the protruding portions 15 of the reinforcing ring 14. The screw openings in the flexible washer are of slightly less diameter than the openings in the collar portion 6 and the openings in the flange are again slightly smaller than the openings in the washer, so that tapering stair step entrances are provided for the guidance of the screws 16 into the threaded openings in the reinforcing ring 14.
In order to reduce the number of separate parts and thereby facilitate the assembly of the fixture, the flexible washer. the reflector flange and the reinforcing ring are secured together by means of eyelets 17 so that they may all be handled as a unit, as shownin Fig. 7.
Due to the novel construction of this invention the assembly and installation of the same is made quite easy. The hood is screwed onto the conduit and the lead wires lished through the conduit if this has not already been done. The receptacle is then held bottom up so as to expose the two wiring termi'- nals to which the lead wires are then connected. As the wiring terminals are on t ie back of the receptacle the binding screws are brought over close to the neck of the hood, thereby enabling a very short wiring connection to be made. After the wires are secured under thebinding screws the receptacle is tilted up and into place about its lower rear edge which is flat as a pivotal point. The'unit' comprising the flexible washer, the reflector and the reinforcing ring is then slipped over the socket and against the outside surface of the shoulder portion of the receptacle. The screws 16 are inserted through the back of the hood through the aligned openings in the various parts and then threaded into the threaded openings in the reinforcing ring.
By means of the foregoing construction a lighting fixture consisting of few parts that may be easily and quickly assembled is provided, and in which the reflector may be attached or removed by merely removing three screws without disturbing the wiring of the fixture. This enables the reflector to be packed and shipped separately from the hood and receptacleand also enables a damaged reflector to be taken down and replaced by another which may be of the same or a different size.
Although I have shown and described but one embodiment of this invention it is evident that various modifications thereof may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention, and, therefore, the latter is to be limited only by the scope of the prior art and the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An electric lighting fixture comprising a hood member, a receptacle member having a reduced portion containing a screw base socket and an enlarged collar portion adapted to fit into said hood, and a reflector member having a neck portion provided with an inwardly extending flange adapted to be slipped over said reduced portion of the receptacle and secured to the outer surface of said collar 'portion whereby the whole receptacle is encased in the hood and reflector members.
2. An electric lighting fixture comprising a hood member, a receptacle member having a one piece base, said base having a reduced portion containing a screw base socket and an enlarged collar portion adapted to fit into said hood, a reflector member. having a neck portion provided with an inwardly extending flange adapted to be slipped over said reduced portion of the receptacle and secured to the outer surface of the collar portion, whereby said reflector can be attached and removed without the necessity of disconnecting the receptacle and when in attached position the whole receptacle is encased withinthe hood and reflector members.
3. An electric lighting fixture comprising a hood member, a receptacle member having a reduced portion containing a screw base socket and an enlarged collar portion adapted to fit into and lie within said hood, al reflector member having a neck portion provided with an inwardly extending flange adapted to be slipped over saidv reduced portion of the receptacle and secured to the outward surface of said collar portion, and securing means for holding the receptacle and reflector Ymen'ibers in place on said hood extending from the back of said hood through registering openings in said hood, said receptacle and said reflector member flange.
4. An electric lighting fixture comprising a flanged hood member, a receptacle member having a reduced portion containing a screw base socket and an enlarged collar portion adapted to fit into and lie Within said hood, a flexible Washer adapted to fit down over the outer surface of said colla-r portion of said receptacle and against the flange of said hood so as to form with said hood a Weatherproof casing for the receptacle, a reflector member having a neck port-ion provided With an inwardly extending flange which fits against the outer side of said flexible Washer and about the reduced portion of said receptacle.
5. An electric lighting fixture comprising a hood member, a receptacle member having an enlarged collar portion and a reduced portion containing a screw base socket, said collar portion being adapted to fit into and lie Within said hood member, a reflector member having a neck portion provided With an inwardly extending flange adapted to be slipped over said reduced portion of the receptacle and secured to the outer surface of said Collar portion whereby said reflector can be attached and removed Without the necessity of disconnecting the receptacle, and a reinforcing ring placed inside the flange on said reflector to hold the reflector in place and reinforce the neck portion thereof.
