TOBACCO PIPE Filed Jan. 29, 1930 llllll lll (J22 men for Patented Feb. 24, 1931 RICHARD DEUS, F COLOGNE-DEUTZ, GERMANY TOBACCO PIPE Application filed January 29, 1930, Serial No. 424,334, and in Germany February 5, 1929.
My invention relates to tobacco-pipes. The main object of my invention is a pipe in which a rational combustion takes place so that residues are avoided. Another'objeet I ,5 of my invention is a pipe which is easily to be cleaned. An embodiment of myinvention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the pipe according to the invention,
Fig. 2 a cross section of the pipe-bowl,
Fig. 3 a cross section of the pipe-tube,
Fig. 4 a longitudinal section of a cleaner adapted to be inserted into the pipe-bowl,
and
Fig. 5 a plan view of said cleaner.
The inner cylindrical surface of the pipebowl is provided with a lining Z) of asbestos. Adjacent said lining is a cylindrical grate consisting of a number of superimposed rings 0 which are equally spaced from each other to form annular recesses between them.
The said rings are held together by two or more longitudinal ribs (Z. In this way annular air spaces are formed through which a good circulation of the air around the tobacco and correspondingly a rational combustion without condensation is attained. In the lower part of the pipe-bowl a plane grate e is provided which has a central opening f throughwhich the smoke enters into the lower tapering part 9 of the bowl. Thence the smoke is suckedofi to the mouth piece through a wound channel 71 provided in a piece 71 which is inserted into the pipe tube h. In the bowl a rotatable cleaner is arranged which is guided in the annular grooves 0 between the rings 0. The cleaner has a shank m on which teeth m are provided which fit into the grooves 0 The shank isin connection with an arm m extending obliquely above the grate c. The said arm is also provided with teeth m fitting into annular grooves of the plane grate e. The arm m ends in a hollow pivot 01. which has its bearing in the opening f. In this way the cleaner is adaptedto be rotated. On the upper end of the shankm of the cleaner a ring 9 is fastened which has an inner conical and an outer cylindrical annular section.
The said sections enclose the annular edge of the bowl at the free end thereof, and the said ring Q also serves as a handle for the rotation of the cleaner. The cavity oi the hollow pivot a is protected by a hood 1 which prevents fresh tobacco to fall through said cavity into the smoke channel 7'. The smoke is sucked off through the channed 2' of the insertion c which may consist of paper or any other suitable material and which is enclosed in a shell 5 of porous material. In the pipe tube 72, openings Z are provided through which fresh cooling air enters to how around the shell 8. From the wound channel 2' of the insertion i the smoke is sucked through a transversal bore 71 and a central duct 2' into the mouth piece is.
I claim:
1. In a pipe, a bowl, a grate in said bowl, said grate comprising ribs spaced from each other to form annular recesses between them, and a rotatable cleaner in said bowl, said cleaner having cleaning teeth which fit into the said. annular recesses.
2. In a pipe, a bowl, a grate in said bowl, such grate having a cylindrical portion which comprises superimposed rings spaced from each other to form annular recesses be tween them and a plane portion which consists of annular ribs and annular recesses between them, and a rotatable cleaner in said bowl, said cleaner having cleaning teeth iittin g into the recesses of the cylindrical portion and cleaning teeth fitting into the plane portion of the grate.
3. In a pipe, a bowl, a grate in said bowl, such grate having a plane portion, a cleaner rotatably mounted in said plane portion said cleaner having teeth adapted to clean said grate.
I11 testimony whereof I affix my signature.
RICHARD DEUS.
