Serial N0. 343,281 i l d The present invention appertains to improvements in the art known as llluminatlon,
and more particularly the invention has ref-- erence to a novel automobile headlight con struction.
The principal object of this inventlon 1s to beam of light projected by the reflector" will be cast upon the roadway in advance of the automobile andin such a manner as to eliminate any glaring rays above the imaginary line of vision for. drivers of approachingautomobiles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a headlight construction wherein the .varying conditions.
Another object of the invention 1s to provide a dimmer for headlights wherein the dimmer may be readily removed for the purposeof repair or replacement.
considering the invention as claimed hereinafter.
In the drawings: j
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical sectional view through the improved headlight construction.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the improved headlight.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the upper section ofthe dimmer.
Figure 4 is a front elevation dimmer section.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, the invention includes a casing 3 open at one end and reduced and inclined upwardly from a point described and of the upper 4. The open end portion of the casing 3 is bent backwardlyas at 5 and then inwardly to provide a circumferentially extending flange 6. Secured to this flange 6 by suitable set screws 'Fis a'grooved ring 8 provided with a circumferentially extending flange 9 at its inner edge inclined rearwardly in the manner clearly shown in Figure 1. A substantially conical shaped reflector 10 with a rearconcave portion has its open end bulb l i.

M
rAdapted for d' positionwithin the reflector 10 is a dimmer construction whichis clearly shown in Figure 2. Thisdimmer construction 7 includes an upper section 22 and alower sec! tion 23, the upper section consisting of a pair of arcu ate members 24-24, each provided iwith an outwardly projecting flange 25 for disposition between the lens 19 and the ring 8. The upper section, also includes a relatively elongated slat 26 disposed at one end between the members 2424 and adapted to project inwardly of the reflector 10 toterminate very closely to the bulb 141.1; The slat 26'is inclined rearwardly as are the succeeding slats .27, each, succeeding slat being somewhat shorter than itspreceeding superimposedslats, in the I The sectionof the dimmer 23 consists of a1 pair of arcuate members-from each of-which.
