of the helicopter propellers and the pulling force of the tractor propeller This invention also consists 1n certain'other features of construction and in the comblnation and arrangement of the several parts,
to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and speclfically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like 01' corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a front view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view, with parts in section.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view through the front part of the device, with parts in elevation.
' Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2, but showing a modification.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the fuselage of the toy aeroplane and 2 the wings thereof. An electric motor 3 is located in the 8 attached to the wing and in a part of the.
wing. The upper end of the shaft, which is located in the wing, has fastened thereto a beveled gear 9. A shaft 10 passes through the fuselage into the wings and has beveled gears 11 at its ends which mesh with the gears 9. Beveled gears 12 connect this shaft with the rear part of the shaft 4 which is driven from the motor.
As will be seen, each propeller 6 is of greater length than the width of each'wing and 1529. ,SerialllTo. 358,412.
said propellers 6 act to lift the plane verticall'y while the propeller 5 acts to pull the plane forwardly, the three propellers being driven from the single motor. If desired,
however, a second motor 13 may be used to drive the shaft 10, as shown in Figure 4.
The plane is suspended from any suitable support by the tubular member 14 which has its lower end connected with the fuselage and the conductors 15 for supplying current to the motor may pass through this member. The plane "is provided with the usual landing gear 16..
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an attractive toy which will both amuse and instruct children as well as 1 adults, for upon the starting up of the motor,
or motors, the propellers 6 will act to lift the toy off the surface on which it rests and the propeller 5 will pull the toy forwardly and thus the toy will revolve in a circle and this circle will be gradually increased as.
the plane picks up speed. Of course, thepropellers 6 will help to drive the plane forwardly as the plane assumes an inclined position as it passes around its circular path.
' As before stated, the toy will be instructive in illustrating the action of the helicopter propellers in lifting the plane vertically and the pulling action of the propeller 5 so that the toy is instructive as well as amusing.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip- I tion that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be madein the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: A toy aeroplane comprising a hollow body, an electric motor mountedinl-thebody upon the upper side of the bottom thereof and .near' the forward end thereof and including a forwardly through the for shaft extending ward end of the body and rearwardlybeyond the motor, a propeller mounted upon the forward end of the shaft, a bevel gear mounted upon the rear end of the shaft, a flexible current conductor connected with the upperside :2 g p I 1,793,368
of the body in rear of the motor and above 7 the rear end of the said shaft, to supply current to the motor, hollow Wings extending f from each side of the body, a shaft, rotatably mounted in the Wings, a bevel gear upon the shaft meshing With the bevel gea r. upon the motor sha'ft,-shafts 'journalled in the under sides of the Wings and having their upper ends extending into'the ings, abevel gear upon the upper end of each of saidshafts, I V bevel gears upon the outer ends of the secondmentioned shafts, meshing With the gears upon the last mentioned shafts and helic'op ter propellers mounted upon the lower ends of the last mentioned shafts.
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
. JESSE G." JOHNSON.
